
| BLACKBURN, George Kenneth -62, of Timberlea, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late George and Edna (Bremner) Blackburn. Ken will be remembered fondly by his family and many friends for his outgoing personality, wit and his willingness to help anyone and was nicknamed "the Mayor of Lakeside". He was also a former member of the Lakeside Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Karen Ann (Chisholm); son, Marc (Lauralee Evans); grandson, Nathan; stepgranddaughter, Victoria Evans; brothers, Ronnie (Joanne), Hatchett Lake; Wayne, Tantallon; Robert (Judy), Russell (Gill) and Alan, all of Timberlea; Garnet (Shauna), Tantallon; sisters, Shirley (Wayne Boudreau), Lakeside; Helen (Frank Vigneault), Beechville; Phyllis, Hatchett Lake; Edna Slaunwhite, Terence Bay; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, William John; brothers, George, Gerald and Doug; sisters, Dorothy Smith and Barbara Howard. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 15, in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. Funeral service will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Father Joe MacKinnon officiating. Burial to follow in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
