CANNING, Herbert Frederick - 86, Seabright, passed away May 4, 2006, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Fred was born in Port Greville and raised in Parrsboro. He served in England as a mechanic during the Second World War. After returning home from the war Fred set up a service station in Seabright which he owned and operated for many years. He was a founding member of the Seabright Volunteer Fire Department. In his younger days he had a great interest in politics, working tirelessly for "his" party at the provincial and federal levels. Fred was a keen outdoorsman. He loved nothing more than fishing at Prices Lake, hunting at The Meadow and cruising on St. Margaret's Bay. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Gwendolyn, and sister, Esther. Fred is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lottie; brother, Doane; daughter, Carol (Jerry White); grandchildren, Jeff (Samantha) and Allison; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Imogen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, in Ronald A.
