CHRISTIE, Jean Beatrice - 82, Head of St. Margaret's Bay, passed away quietly surrounded by her loving family August 23, 2002, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in West Wentworth, she was a daughter of the late Ellsworth and Annie (MacDonald) McGill. Jean graduated from Normal College, Truro in 1939. She was a teacher at Collingswood, Cumberland Co. before coming to the St. Margaret's Bay area to teach in the surrounding communities. She retired in 1977 with 35 years of service. She was an active member of St. Georges ACW and superintendent of the Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Mystic Lodge and the White Caps Seniors Group. Jean will be lovingly remembered for her kindness toward her many students, friends and community members. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her lifelong friend, Evelyn Alders, also her dear friend, Ester Snair. Jean's greatest source of pleasure came from her most recent blessings of her great-grandchildren. Surviving are sons, Gary (Doreen), Head of St. Margaret's Bay; Roddy (Louise), Stillwater; grandchildren, Kim (Kevin Abbott), Shannon (Craig Dickson), Joel (Jessica Knox), Quentin, Karri (presently teaching in Taiwan); great-grandchildren, Helena Christie, Griffen and Riley Abbott; brother, Donald (Elaine), Truro; sisters, Eileen (Lorne) Barclay, Manitoba and Helen (Delbert) Goodwin, Amherst. She was predeceased by her loving husband, James Aubrey "Jim"; also her sister, Dorothy Cullen (California). Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13565 Highway 3, Tantallon. Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Georges Anglican Church, Head of St. Margaret's Bay, Rev. Mark Marshall officiating.
