DOREY, Thomas Carl - 80, Hubbards, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 26, 2006, with his family by his side in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. A lifelong resident of Hubbards, he was a son of the late Almon and Jemima (MacLean) Dorey. Tom worked 43 years for the Canadian National Railways and was a part-time lobster fisherman. Our father was active in sports in his youth, playing hockey with the Hubbards Tunas and softball with various teams in Hubbards. Dad was also an avid hunter, trapper and salmon fisherman; he won a fly casting accuracy contest in 1989 at the Atlantic Outdoor Sports and R.V. Show. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the Toronto Maple Leafs. As well, he and his sister, Shirley, had a reputation for being the best "Jitterbug" dancers to set foot in the Shore Club. Dad also knew a song for just about every word in the English language and could sing them all beautifully. We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Workman and the nurses of 8.4 step down unit and the Emergency department of the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, for their care in Dad's time of need. Surviving are his daughter, Tamar, Hubbards; son, Kirk (Rosie), Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Amber and Cody Fryday, Hubbards; William and Meredeth Dorey, Lower Sackville; sister, Catherine (Victor) Steele, and brothers, Daniel (Olive), Fox Point; Arnold (Anne), Abbotsford, B.C.; sister-in-law, Nancy Dorey, Hubbards; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife and fishing partner, Louise (Smith); sisters, Audrey Campbell and Shirley Beeler; brother, Herbert, and half-brother, Clarence MacLean.
