DOWELL, Vera Maude - 95, Black Point. We are saddened to announce the passing of the matriarch of our family, who died peacefully at home on March 28, 2008. Born in Middlewood, Lunenburg Co., Vera was the oldest child of the late Ralph and Carrie (Connolly) Baker. Surviving are her children, Winnifred Conrad, Lower Argyle; Shirley (Lawrence) Wolfe, Milton; Garth (Mary) Goreham, South Side; Barbara (Gaye) Sims, Boutilier's Point; Carolyn Newbery, Halifax; Sharon (Gary) Vieth, Black Point; Mary Snair, Lewis Lake; Robert (Darlene) Dowell, Lantz; siblings, Gerald Baker, Bridgewater; Thelma Kenneally, Liverpool; Ralph Baker, Southwest Port Mouton; 25 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 24 great great-grandchildren, and three great great-great-grandchildren. Vera was predeceased by her husband, Robert; sister, Rita Dagley; brothers, Melbourne Baker and Arnold Baker; grandchildren, Rose Munroe and James Conrad III; two great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Vera was devoted to her family and they to her, and she was well loved by all who knew her. She was "Nanny" to many. A family graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 31, in United Church Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool, Rev. Mark Marshall officiating.
