FAY (Freestone), Gwendolen Isabel - Beloved wife, mother and grannie. Born May 8, 1915, in Nappan, died February 16, 2003, at home in Halifax. She was the eldest daughter of the late Rev. John H. and Gwendolen (Boyle) Freestone. She grew up in the Maritimes and Bermuda. She attended Dalhousie University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. While at Dalhousie she married Donald B. Fay, whom she married in June 1942. Prior to the Second World War she taught in one-room schools along the south shore of Nova Scotia and at Netherwood School in Rothesay, N.B. After the war she taught high school in Port Elgin and Sackville, N.B. A lifelong music lover, she taught piano, played the flute and was a church organist and choir director. While living in Sackville, she was national treasurer of the Canadian Federation of University Women. She retired to Halifax in 1979 and spent summers at Big Island and Upper Cape, N.B. She is survived by her husband, Donald B. Fay, Halifax; sister, Anne Hutchinson (Bill), Surrey, B.C.; son, Donald F. Fay (Margaret), Halifax; daughter, Anne MacLean (Neil), Big Island; eight grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, in St. Matthew's United Church, Halifax, Rev. Marion Innis officiating. Family flowers only. Services have been entrusted to Ronald A.
