GATES, Stuart Warren "Dinky" - 73, Blandford, passed away Monday, April 21, 2003, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Blandford, he was the son of the late Warren and Sadie (Publicover) Gates. Stuart was an active member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford, Master Mason of the Clarke Lodge 61, Chester, and a member of the Ancient Scottish Rite and was co-founder of Blandford Community Centre. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, gardening, toll painting and working in the woods. Dinky was also an Oddfellow, he was a commissioner and a former fire chief with Blandford District Volunteer Fire Department and retired from DND Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, the former Annice Publicover; son, Kevin (Catherine), Dartmouth; daughter, Janet (Steve) Robart, Boutilier's Point; sisters, Nina (Ellis) Schnare, Coral Janes, Gloria Stevens; grandchildren, Corey, Susan, Shane, and Logan; sister-in-laws, Dorothy and Kaye; mother-in-law, Sadie Publicover, all of Blandford; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Hardy and Malcolm. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford, Rev. Randy Townsend officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
