| GRANT, Doris Belle -88, of Hubbards, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2009, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Hubbards, Doris was the fifth of six children to the late Freeman and Nettie-May (Westhaver) Harnish. She had fond memories of her childhood in Hubbards. She had met her lifelong love, Norm Grant while he was parading with the Merchant Marines past her home near the training grounds and she waited for him to return from his travels. After the war, the couple moved to Montreal where they lived until 1983. Doris enjoyed being a homebody and looking after her family. She also spent many hours at her cottage on Lac St. Louis, in Quebec and her family cottage on Mill Lake in Lunenburg Co. She will be remembered for her sense of humour and her joy of "dressing up" with her sisters at the cottage, she surprised many an unsuspecting visitor. In 1999, Doris came full circle, moving back to Hubbards to live across the cove from her family home. She is survived by her husband, Norm; son, Gary and her daughter-in-law, Janis (Cobb-Grant); granddaughter, Jennifer Grant; brother, Walter Harnish. Predeceased by brothers, Gerald; sisters, Kay MacLean, Pauline Kelly, Marjorie Ashe. It was Doris' wish that there be a family service at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian National Institute of the Blind and/or Hubbards Food Bank. On-line condolences can be made to: www.rawalker.ca |
