GATES, Malcolm Woodworth - 77, Blandford, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2001, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Blandford, he was a son of the late Warren and Sadie (Publicover) Gates. He was retired from the Halifax Dockyard (DND), Halifax. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Master Mason of Clark Masonic Lodge 16, Chester. He was also a member of Scottish Right, member of Royal Canadian Legion Butler Branch, Chester. Malcolm was an avid amateur radio operator, his call signs were VE1WO. Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Woods; daughter, Valerie McKay, Bedford; grandson, Benjamin; brother, Steward; sisters, Nina Schnare, Coral Janes, Gloria Stevens, all of Blandford; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Hardy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford, Rev. Randy Townsend officiating. Memorial donations can be made to St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford.
