HUBLEY,
Willena Mae — We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved
wife, mother and grandmother on Wednesday, October 29, 2009, surrounded by
her loving family, in Glades Lodge, Halifax. She was a daughter of the late
Norman and Annie (Conners)MacAskill. Survived by her loving husband, best
friend and soul mate of 51 years, Roy Hubley; children, Deborah O'Neill (Micheal
Carter), Kevin(Angela A'Hearn) and Kenneth (Janice) Hubley; dear grandmother
of Kelsey O'Neill, Sarah, Julie and Cameron Hubley. Also survived by
brother, Daniel MacAskill, and many nieces and nephews. Willena was born in
Stirling, Cape Breton on December 16, 1930. She taught for many years at
various schools. Her last was Seabright Elementary before retiring. After
retiring she worked several years at Sou Wester Gift Shop and the Lighthouse
Post Office in Peggy's Cove, where she was known as Willie. Willena was a
member of William Black Memorial United Church, Glen Margaret for over 50
years where she was a charter member of the choir and a lifetime member of
UCW for 43 years. She was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows
Manchester Unity from 1962 until its recent closing. She was a very active
member who held many offices over the years and was also a member of White
Caps Seniors Group, since 1990 where she served as President for many years.
Being a resident of Seabright for over 50 years, she was involved within the
community whether it be an election, card game or any type of gathering. Willena loved to entertain and be entertained, and enjoyed a good cup of
Cape Breton Tea. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home,
13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m.
Monday in William Black Memorial Church, Glen Margaret. Burial will follow
in William Black Memorial Cemetery. Donations may be made to William Black
Memorial Church or Glades Lodge Recreation Department Fund. Special thank
you to the staff of Glades Lodge, Janet Fralick, Home Care Worker, and Rev.
Sandra Cox and close friends for their compassion and support during this
