76, of West Dover: It is with deeply saddened heavy hearts that the family of Otis announce the passing of a deeply loved father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and friend on Wednesday March 23, 2011 at the QEII Health Science Center in Halifax. Born in West Dover he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Mary Jane Herritt. Otis was a fisherman all of his life. He captained several vessels, including the Malagash, Francis R., and Jean R. out of Riverport and Lunenburg. He later went into partnership and fished the Elizabeth Viola until he retired. The loves of his life were his wife Viola, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and his best buddies, two spoiled dogs, Fang & Skip, and his ol buddy, Foster. He was an avid 45s card player and enjoyed his card games on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings. He especially enjoyed beating his partner’s (usually his son Earl) tricks. Otis had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He was loved and respected by all. He is survived by his daughters Heather (Timothy), Indian Harbour, Helena (Gary), Antrim, sons Earl (Christine), Whites Lake, Eugene (Sandra), Antrim, Norman (Deanna), Indian Harbour, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brothers Cecil (Rosie) West Dover, Junior (Florence) Aylesford, sister Mary (Kenny) West Dover, many nieces and nephews, his two dogs Skip & Fang, and buddy Foster. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Viola, son Yogi, two brothers Almon & Jim, and three sisters Queenie, Renie, & Lillian. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, Monday March 28, 2011 from the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy’s Cove Road, Tantallon. The funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday March 29, 2011 at the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home in Tantallon. Rev. Anna Hoeg officiating. A reception for family and friends to follow at the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home.The burial of our Parents, Otis and Viola, to take place in the St. James Cemetery West Dover following the reception. Donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, St. James Anglican Church West Dover, or a charity of your choice.
