| JENNEX, Helen Margaret - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Helen (Flinn) of Queensland, on August 31, 2008. She was two weeks shy of her 88th birthday. She was a woman of surpassed charm, warmth and great wit.....she died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Mom spent the majority of her life in Halifax, growing up with her brothers, Ted, John, Tim and Dennis (a.k.a. Bus), and her sister, Nora. Friends will remember that as a young woman Mom was involved in the St. Mary's Boat club where she was an avid paddler and a successful synchronized and long distance swimmer. She was also active in the club's musical productions. She and our father, John Curtis, were married after the war, and raised our family on Oxford Street. It was a busy life. Along with raising kids, they were very active with St. Theresa's Parish. They were frequent travellers with family and friends to Montreal and the U.S., and they were also warm and hospitable hosts to many guests. Mom's passion was cooking and baking, and she would often entertain large crowds at our summer home in Queensland. She eventually channelled both her business acumen and her passion for entertaining into a catering business which she ran for several years with her friend and business partner Marg Fraughton. She also worked for companies such as Airport Transfer, Hertz, and a chartered accountant firm. Mom was predeceased by Dad as well as her four brothers. She will be deeply missed by a large and devoted family including her children, Michael (Kathleen), Barb Fraughton (Rick), Ted (Rita), Anne Jennex-Roberts (Brian) and Cathy; her grandchildren, David, Peter, Stacy, Justin, Nick, Matthew, Sara, John, Craig, Kevin, Kelly, Justis and Curtis; and nine great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister, Nora (Mulcahy); her sister-in-law, Thelma Flinn; niece, Joy; nephew, David; as well as other family and friends. A mass of celebration of Mom's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 5, in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Hubbards, where she was church Treasurer for many years, Father Chinedu Chukwu officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
