JONES, Charles "Chuck" - 73, of Tantallon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, April 2, 2004. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late King and Mary (Jefferson) Jones. Chuck was a Korean Veteran, having served overseas from March 1951 to April 1952. Following discharge from the Army he joined the Halifax Police Department (1955-61) and until his retirement (1988) he worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Chuck and his wife Gertie enjoyed 15 years of retirement, traveling, fishing and spending time with their grandchildren. Chuck loved the outdoors, especially working in his garden. He was a member of the St. Margaret's Bay Lion's Club and was one of the founding members of St. Margaret's Bay Minor Hockey and Minor Baseball Leagues. He will be sadly missed by his family and special friends, Norm, Bettye, Byron, and Carol. Surviving are his wife, the former Gertie Fraser; sons, Kevin, Halifax; Terry, Dartmouth; daughters, Beverley (Mark) Westhaver, Brenda (Derrick) Rondeau, both of Upper Tantallon; brother, Gerald, Toronto; sisters, Lillian Christian, Yarmouth; Doreen (Evans) Cameron, Trenton, Ont.; Sheila Ratchford, Burlington, Ont.; Hilda (Ray) White, New Waterford; grandchildren, Brian and Andrew Jones, Jason and Laura Rondeau; daughter-in-law, Tina Jones. Family will receive visitors Monday, April 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Tantallon. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 6, at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Church, Tantallon, Father Jim Richards officiating. Burial in St. Margaret's Church Cemetery.
