
| MITCHELL, Sydney Gerald - 88, Hubbards, formerly of Bayswater, passed away at home. Born in Cornwall, England, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Susie (Prouse) Mitchell. Sydney was a member of the Grenadier Guards band for 10 years, followed by 10 years in the London musical profession. In 1956 he joined British Waterways, operating commercial and pleasure craft until 1962 when he immigrated to the U.S.A. in New Windsor, N.Y. He was employed as administrative assistant by McQuade Children's Home until 1969 when he immigrated to Halifax. His musical activities in Nova Scotia included acting as director of the Halifax and Lunenburg barbershop choruses, the Syd Mitchell Singers, and director of the Blandford and Bayswater church choirs. In 1986 he traveled to Yukon River to Dawson City. Further travels included visits to England, Croatia, Italy, France, and Azores and freighter voyages to Holland, Sardinia, two voyages to New Zealand and Australia and Pitcairn Island. With his companion of many years, Jean Wight Rosahn, Kensington, Conn., he traveled extensively in the U.S.A. and Canada from coast to coast in both countries. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor who died of Leukemia in 1993; sister and three brothers in the United Kingdom. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Homes. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 20, in All Saints Anglican Church, Bayswater, Rev. Laura McCue Officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
