MacLEAN, Gilbert Charles - 84, Hubbards, passed away February 14, 2002, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was a son of the late Harry O. and Florence A. (Cleveland) MacLean. Gilbert worked 35 years as a stevedore on the Halifax waterfront. On the weekends he worked for 40 years at Hubbards Shore Club, serving lobster to many of the tourists and convention guests visiting the Hubbards area. One of Gilbert's proudest times was when he prepared a lobster dinner for 500 guests including Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1983. He was a master crib player who would challenge a player at the drop of a hat. Gilbert was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a member of the Clarke Masonic Lodge 61, Chester. He is survived by his wife, the former Jeannine (Babineau); stepsons, Charles Harrison, Toronto; Gary Harrison, Barrie, Ont.; Michael Harrison, Cornwall, Ont.; stepdaughters, Louise (Bob) Ramsey, Barrie, Ont.; Judy (Kevin) MacMillian, Parrsboro; Rosie (Gary) Matter, Lord Minster, Man.; brother, Russell (Susie), Hubbards; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife, Joyce; brothers, twin Douglas, John, George, Harold and Cyril; sisters, Marguerite and Hazel. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in St. Luke's Anglican Church, Hubbards, Rev. Mark Pretty officiating.
