
| McEACHERN, Duncan Stanley - 75, Boutilier's Point, passed away peacefully July 31, 2001, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a son of Donald and Eunice McEachern (Eldershaw). Duncan was a veteran of the Second World War, having proudly served overseas in England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany with the Tank Core after volunteering for service in 1941. Before his retirement in 1985 he had been employed as a crane operator for 32 years with the Halifax Shipyard. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Seabright Branch 116 and a founding member of St. Margaret's Bay Masonic Lodge 118. He enjoyed spending time gardening, fishing and was a member of St. Margaret's Bay Crib League for 30 years. He had been involved in the Scouting movement and minor hockey with his children and grandchildren. Duncan's happiest moments were those spent with his family. He touched many lives with his caring and giving ways and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Rose (Smeltzer); son, Les (Debbie Martell), Boutilier's Point; daughters, Debbie (Kevin Boutilier), Upper Tantallon; Louise (Roddy Christie), Haliburton Hills; Rosann, Charlottetown; grandchildren, Jeremy and Lori McEachern, Michael and Jan Boutilier, Joel and Quentin Christie; great-grandchild, Helena Christie; brothers, Carl, Black Point; Lester, Harry and Cecil, Boutilier's Point; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Gordon in infancy. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Tantallon. Funeral service and burial will be held in St. James Anglican Church, Boutilier's Point Thursday, August 2, 11 a.m., Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Health Centre, St. James Memorial Fund or a charity of choice. |
