| NICHOLAS, Betty "Joan" - 70, Fox Point, passed away peacefully with her loving daughter, family and friends at her side on June 3, 2007, in QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Sheet Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Eldon and Sadie (MacDonald) Rutledge. Joan will be remembered for her caring ways and generous heart. She always went out of her way to ensure that those she cared about in their trying times had a home cooked meal and fresh baked treats. Her quick wit always brought a smile and chuckle to everyone she talked with. She took great pride in working with her late husband Donald at the local Lions Club and supporting him with his transportation company, KTS Logistics. She was an active member of the Hubbards Ladies Fire Department Auxiliary, and loved working at the garden party suppers. She was also an avid quilt maker. Remembered as Aunt Joan to her many nieces and nephews, she will be forever in our hearts. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Ann, Fox Point; brother, Roy, Sheet Harbour. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; brothers, Fred, Harold, Dennis; sisters, Lillian, Rhoda, Ruby, and Kathleen. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday June 7; funeral service 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, both in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards, Rev. Laurie Omstead officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. A special thank you to the nursing staff on 8.1 for all their caring ways and support.
