PARKYN, Michael - 65, our much-loved father and grandfather, passed away at his home in East Chester, Monday, February 17, 2003. He was a son of the late Herbert Thomas and Vera Annie Parkyn. Michael was born and lived in Portsmouth, England, until the family moved to Dartmouth in 1954. He joined the Bank of Montreal in 1955, where he was the manager of several branches in the metro area until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement he worked for H. & R. Block and The Ronald A. Walker Funeral Homes. Michael was also treasurer for several community organizations including Banook Canoe Club, Dartmouth, and the Royal Canadian Legion, Edith Butler Branch, Chester, where he was also a dedicated volunteer. Surviving are son, Brian; daughter-in-law, Bernice, Elmsdale; daughters, Karyn, Dartmouth; Heather, Halifax; grandchildren, Shauna, Michael, Kevin and Johnathan; brothers, Russell, New Ross; David, Dartmouth; nieces, Sheri and Joanne. Visitation and Legion service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester, Rev. Jim McCorriston officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Royal Canadian Legion, Chester Branch. The family wishes to thank the Chester detachment of the RCMP for their assistance.
