ROBINSON, Douglas Walter - Hubbards Cove. It is with deep felt sadness that the family of Douglas Walter Robinson announce that he died on February 10, 2005. Douglas was born in Windsor and was the only son of the late Walter and Ella (MacLean) Robinson. In 1948, Douglas and Mabel (Slauenwhite) Robinson were married and have been residents of Hubbards Cove for the past 56 years. Douglas was active in the community and was recognized as a co-founder of the Hubbards Fire Department. For 27 years he was the estate manager for Carmarthan Farms in Hubbards Cove and retired in 1971. In 1972, Doug followed his passion and opened Pine Gables Crafts Studio, where he created his famous "Boats in a Bottle", which are now known worldwide. Doug also enjoyed painting and was extremely supportive of the local arts community, displaying crafts from many artisans across the province. A visit to Hubbards Cove in the summer was not complete without a visit to Pine Gables. Doug was a people person and he enjoyed the company of those who came through the door, just to chat and share stories. People have returned to Pine Gables throughout the years sharing memories and creating new ones. Douglas was the devoted and loving father of his son, Paul (Linda), Hubbards Cove. Visitation will be held today in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards, from 2-4 p.m. Funeral service will be held Sunday, February 13, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards, Rev. Dan Green officiating. A reception will follow. Burial at a later date. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of choice. Special thanks to the nursing staff at South Shore Regional Hospital ICU for their kind support.
