RUMSCHEIDT, Barbara Lawrence - 61, died peacefully at home in Halifax, January 20, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Born in Montreal, she was the daughter of Robert Lawrence and Florence May (McCurdy) Guild of Old Barns, Colchester Co. Beloved wife of H. Martin Rumscheidt., D.D. for 40 years and loving mother of three children, the family lived in Montreal, Toronto, Enterprise and Windsor, Ont. and since 1975 in Halifax. She was a committed and energetic activist in the women's and peace movements and in the church. She was a ready and capable worker and a source of support and encouragement to others in a number of social justice organizations locally and internationally. Her compassion, sense of humour, and love of fun enriched the lives of family, friends and co-workers. A scholar and a natural teacher, she was most recently a lecturer at Atlantic School of Theology. She was the author of the book, "No Room for Grace" Pastoral Theology and Dehumanization in the Global Economy. Surviving besides her parents and husband, are sons, Peter (Tracy Cipryk), Halifax; Bob (Natalie Guzzo), Halifax; daughter, Heidi (Chris McNeill), Whitehorse, Yukon; granddaughters, Taylor, Sydney, Jordan; sisters, Joyce Meadows (Frank), London, Ont.; Helen Heather (Rodney), Beaconsfield, Que.; brothers, Jim (Jane MacMillan), Halifax; Keith (Heather), Ottawa; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, in St. John's United Church, 6225 Willow St., Halifax.
