
| SLAUENWHITE, Jean Adele -84, of Boutilier's Point, passed away Saturday March 28, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Boutilier's Point on June 18, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Oliver D. and Viola M. (Williams) Dauphinee. As a young woman, Jean worked for the Nova Scotia Power Commission as a Meter Reader. She married Milford in 1944 and started their family soon after. With a "If you can't beat them, join them." attitude, they worked in her family's grocery business. From delivering and selling groceries in a truck, they succeeded over the years and eventually built Hubbards Shopping Centre. They worked together until Milford's death in 1986 and then Jean continued on being active in the business on a daily basis until July 2005 when she was diagnosed and beat cancer. She continued to keep an interest in the business until her death and was proactive on doing what had to be done. Jean was a 58 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Charter Member of Mystic Star, No. 40, Head of St. Margaret's Bay. She was interested in genealogy and liked to spend time in her gardens. She is survived by her children, David (Bonita), Hampton, N.B.; Marion (Dave) Armstrong, Cornwall, Ont.; Vance (Debra), Hubbards; Irene (Paul) Harnish, Wentzell Lake; Lois (Chris), Boutilier's Point; grandchildren, Nova, Mexico; Christopher (Anne), Jordan Falls; Steven (Nancy), New Brunswick; Michael (Billie-Jo), Ontario; Malcolm (Julia) Armstrong, Ontario; Nathan, Hubbards; Drew, Halifax; Sean, Hubbards; Jennifer and Adam Harnish, Wentzell Lake; Sophia, Boutilier's Point; great-grandchildren, Autumn, Ontario; Brooke, Jordan Falls; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Milford R.; daughter, Judith A; grandson, Gregory P. Harnish; brothers, O. Graham and Ross E.; sister, V. Mary Cavicchi. The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, with an Eastern Star Service being held at 7 p.m. in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Funeral service 2 p.m. .Thursday April 2 in St. James Anglican Church, Bouitilier's Point. Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. Burial to follow in church cemetery. Family flowers only.
