
| SMITH, Ruby Mildred - 83, Lewis Lake and Melville Lodge, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2007, in Melville Lodge, Halifax. She was born May 27, 1923, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to the late William and Elizabeth Tate. She arrived in Halifax at Pier 21 aboard the Mauritania as a war bride with two young children in March 1946. She was the former Matron of the Halifax City Prison, then of the Halifax County Correctional Centre in Sackville. She also worked for the Department of Health for many years in the payroll department. She was a member of the White Caps Seniors Club in Seabright. She had many hobbies, but she will be remembered by her neighbours and friends for her long walks with her dog. She is survived by her husband, Donald Everette, Lewis Lake and Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax; daughters, Maureen (Bob) Bliss, Peterborough, Ont.; Ruby (David) Dorey, Lewis Lake; sons, Roy, Sambro; Robert (Rhonda), Lewis Lake; Gary (Bev), Spryfield; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Donald; daughter, Sharon; grandson, Andrew "Andy". The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, and memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, both in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggyís Cove Rd., Tantallon, Rev. Kevin Little officiating. Committal service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of Melville Lodge for the love and care they showed our mum while she was a resident there. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Canadian Cancer Society. |
