SWEET, Margaret Eleanor - Seabright, passed away peacefully at home. Born in Melvern Square, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Edwin and Katheryn Matilda (Buchanan) Baker. She was the wife of the late Reid Sweet who had a well-known photographic store for many years on Blowers Street, Halifax. Shortly after their retirement, they moved to Seabright and became strong supporters of the William Black United Church in Glen Margaret. Margaret loved playing both golf and curling in her most active years. Her keen interest in viewing these sports never ended. Margaret remained bright and interested in all things until her death. This summer she hosted her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for one glorious week. She also hosted several groups of relatives from the United States. Margaret was a very strong minded and courageous person, she had amazing memory, wisdom and common sense. She enjoyed knitting sweaters, blankets and mittens, baking pies, rolls and cakes until the end. Loving and giving, she tenderly looked after her husband through a long illness until he died in 1995. After a heart valve replacement at the age of 86, she had 10 happy years living independently and enjoying family and friends, and her great-grandchildren who were born after her surgery. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Brian Sweet, Hubbards; grandsons, Alan, Halifax; Jamie, Canmore, Alta.; and Andrew (Val Reynolds), Calgary; daughter, Rosemary (Rev. Paul) Cumming, Riverview N.B.; granddaughters, Rebecca Cumming (Darcy Doherty), Toronto, Ont.; Lindsey (Kevin) MacKay, Fredericton, N.B.; great-grandchildren, Ganden, Reid and Cian Doherty, Kalum and Laurel MacKay; a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Reid; brother, Archie, and sisters, Esther (Edward) Bollinger and Harriet (Cameron) Spurr; half-sister, Mary Cox. Funeral service will take place in William Black Church in Glen Margaret on Thursday, November 3, at 2 p.m. A family committal service will be held at a later date in Melvern Square.
