With profound sadness George passed away surrounded by his loving family, with his one and only Shirley by his side, on Monday April 25th 2011. He grew up in Halifax the oldest son of Thomas Arthur Shortt and Lillian (Morash) Shortt. He has two brothers Roy (Margie) and Peter, and his sister Linda (Rick). His professional career was focused in the IT field. He started his career at the Dept. of Motor Vehicles and later moved to Nova Scotia Power. After retirement from management at NSP he continued enjoying a career in the IT field, later working with Unisys Canada and ISM Datacor. In his youth he served in the Halifax Rifles along with his father. Although his career was not in uniform his love and respect for the military continued throughout his life. George served as a member of the Navy League of Canada, an organization that fosters leadership in youth. After his retirement he was an associate member of the Stadacona Mess and the last 4 years he served as the Associate Members Representative.His proudest accomplishments were as a husband to the love of his life Shirley, his two sons Brian and Sean, and two daughters Lisa (David) and Eileen. He was particularly proud to be also known as Grampy to the two little darlings in his life Maddison and Kailey. He loved to dance, sail, ride his motorcycle, do yard work and odd jobs around the house he built. He made a loving home for his family. George lived a good life, and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday April 29th in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggys Cove Road, Tantallon. Funeral service will be held 10am Saturday April 30th in the Saint Ignatius Catholic Church, 1288 Bedford Hwy, Bedford. Rev.
