After a courageous battle with cancer, Harold passed
away peacefully on the eve of his 88th
year at his home in Timberlea, surrounded by his
family on, January 4, 2012. A decorated veteran
(1941 to 1974), Harold served with the Cape Breton
Highlanders, The Black Watch, Queen’s Own Rifles,
First Canadian Guards and later finished his service
with the
Canadian Corps of Commissionaires.
Harold is survived by his loving wife and life
partner of 57 years Nina (Francis), Dartmouth; his
sons, Hartley, Montreal; Arnold, Timberlea; Anthony
(Marsha), Torbay, NL; daughters, Beverly (Richard)
Smith, Windsor; Andrea, Dartmouth; Catherine
(Richard) Gudger, Timberlea ; Nina (Sean) Reddick,
Hatchet Lake. He will be sadly missed by his
grandchildren, Billy (Melodie) van’t Kruis,
Williamswood; Sheryl van’t Kruis, Halifax; Jeffrey
Croft, Timberlea; Caleigh Gudger, Timberlea; Carson,
Owen, Bridget, Carys Reddick, Hatchet Lake; Patrick
and Colin Slade, Torbay, NL; great grandchildren,
Conner and Jax van’t Kruis, Halifax and Kallum and
Kirsten van’t Kruis, Williamswood; brother, Hartley,
Glace Bay; Harold was predeceased by his first wife
Georgina “Joel” (Bannerman), daughter Coline, sons,
Philip, Leonard, Kerry and Harold Jr. The family
will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9pm Friday January 6th
in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy’s
Cove Road, Upper Tantallon. Funeral service will be
held 11am Saturday January 7th in St.
Andrews Anglican Church, Timberlea. Rev. Michael
Conrad officiating, assisted by Rev. Judy Lafford.
Burial to follow in church cemetery. Many thanks to
Glenna Thornhill (Palliative Care), Debbie Townsend
(VON), Tamara and Krystal (RJF Healthcare), the
support staff from At-Home Home Care and
Elaine Walcott.

and IWK Health Center Foundation.
