SMILIE, George - 86, Queensland, passed away October 2, 2001, at home. Born in Sheildhill, Stirling, Scotland, he was a son of the late Watson and Margaret (Hamilton) Smillie. George was a veteran Merchant Marine, self-employed oil distributor in British Columbia, before retiring to Nova Scotia in 1976. Surviving are his second wife, Evelyn (Slater) Smillie, Vancouver; third wife, Ethel (Wheatly) Smillie, Queensland; sons, George (Linda), Coquitlam, B.C.; Christopher J. (Janet), Burnaby, B.C.; daughters, B. Carol (David) MacDonald, Kentville; Mathilda M. Smillie, Vancouver; grandchildren, Edward MacDonald, Toronto; Thomas MacDonald, Kentville; Jennifer (Larry) Fisher, Middle Stewiack, Darren, London, England; Alison, Richmond, B.C.; Greg, Coquitlam, B.C.; Kevin, Robin, Saran, all of Burnaby, B.C. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Helen (Lowe); brothers, James and Watson; sisters, Ina, Annie and Margaret. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Tantallon, Rev. Mark Pretty officiating. Committal service will be held at a later date in Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Victorian Order of Nurses.
