Clarence Wayne Smith- 51, Hatchet Lake, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 16, 2001, at the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Gertrude Mary (LeLachure) Smith, Halifax and the late Gordon Freeman Smith. CDub's (as he was frequently referred to) ability to make you laugh and cry will be remembered fondly by his family and many friends. He was a sheet metal worker by trade and was currently employed with I.C. Roofing & Sheet Metal Ltd., for the past five years. He was formerly employed with Semple Gooder Maritimes. He was a 25 year member of the local 409 Sheet Metal Workers Union and a former member of the Lakeside and Hatchet Lake Volunteer Fire Depts., where he served as chief. Away from work Clarence made several friends and acquaintances while visiting hockey arenas throughout the eastern half of the country. He was a loving father who was proud of the achievements that both he and his family had made. Survived by his wife, Phyllis (Blackburn); son, Derek, Hatchet Lake; daughter, Lisa, Halifax; brother, Steve (Phyllis), Halifax; sisters, Debbie, Susie, Ann Marie, Carolyn, Cindy (Ron) Griffiths, all of Halifax; Laura (Peter) Phillips, Williamswood; many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors Monday, February 19, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Tantallon where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or charity of choice.
