DOUGLAS SUTHERLAND WALLER

     

79 - St. Margaret's Bay.  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving father, husband, grandfather (Grampy Doug), friend, on April 29, 2011, Born in Truro NS  Doug was the son of Vivian and Albert Waller.  Doug attended Queen Elizabeth High School and Dalhousie University. During Doug and Audrey's 54 years of marriage they were blessed with a wonderful life, including 7 children and 14 grandchildren.  Doug’s most cherished moments were with his family and had a special relationship with each and everyone of them. Doug enjoyed Painting - Gardening - Golf – Fishing at the camp and boating in St. Margaret’s Bay, Having coffee with his friends and going to the Market.  Dad always took the time to make special occasions memorable with his thoughtfulness.  Doug (Dad) was an active member of the Chester Golf Club, past member of the Halifax Curling Club, Halifax Club and Ashburn Golf Club. He had many accomplishments during his lifetime, including President of Douglas Waller Agencies, Chairman of Construction Association of Nova Scotia and Executive member of the North West Commercial Travellers Association. His witty personality and welcoming demeanour will forever be remembered. Doug is survived by this children John (Yolande), Jayne (Andrew), Stephen (Nancy), Anne (Ken), Tracey (Stephen), Bill and Douglas A "Gus" and Mary Gilroy (daughter-in-law): grandchildren, Michael S, Sean, Erin, Danielle, James D, Mark, Peter, Renee, Andrew, Michael A., James, Christine, Seth and Colleen: Sister Ardith, Brothers Donald and Jack. Time was always set aside to go to the Chester Golf Club with his best friend Happy to relax. He was predeceased by his loving wife Audrey Joan and his grandsons, Stephen Russell Waller and Ryan Allen McGarrity.  Special thanks to the staff of the 9th floor Abbey J Lane Geriatrics.  In Lieu of flowers it is the family's request that donations be made to the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9pm Monday May 2nd in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Road, Tantallon. Funeral Service will be held 11 am Tuesday May 3rd in the St. Luke’s United Church, 5374 St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Upper Tantallon, Rev. Kevin Little officiating. Burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Hubbards.
