Obituary for Charles George "Peter" Oldershaw

Charles George "Peter" Oldershaw

89 of Seabright, Nova Scotia, passed away in the QE II Health Sciences Center, Halifax on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Born March 21, 1923 in Mount Vernon, Washington, he was the son of the late Alfred and Elsie (Fields) Oldershaw. Peter was a graduate of the University of British Columbia and a veteran of the US Navy. In June of 1950, he married Marion Donkin, daughter of Dr. C.A. and Mrs. Florence Donkin, of Bridgewater, NS. A year later the couple immigrated to the US. The family lived in Boston, Massachusetts and Rochester, New York areas during his 28 year career as a development engineer with BirdsEye and General Foods. After retiring, Peter and his wife Marion made their home in Seabright, where he enjoyed working in his woodshop. He was a superb wood craftsman, displaying his passion for model boats as a member of the Maritime Ship Modeler`s Guild. In 2006, he retired from a second career as a math tutor at Options Work Activity Program in Halifax. Peter is survived by his wife Marion of 62 years; daughter, Eileen (John McKelvey), Fort Wayne, Indiana; granddaughter Laura (Jeff Catalano); 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Hempsall, White Rock, British Columbia and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his daughter, Annie (James Mayo) in 2010. Ever the quiet gentleman, Peter`s soft voice and sharp wit will be missed by family, friends and neighbors. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ronald A Walker Funeral Homes. There will be no service. Donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Peter are welcomed. Marion and Eileen would particularly like to thank their neighbors on Camelot Drive for their love and support during this difficult time.
