George Ronald Coons C.P.O. 1st Class CD (Ret’d.)

 74, of Glen Margaret passed away on Monday February 14, 2011 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Palliative Care, VG Site, Halifax. Born in Lindsay, Ontario he was the son of the late Harvey and Sylvia Laidley. A loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Friend, Ron’s life was all about helping and giving to others. On retirement from the Royal Canadian Navy, he pursued his passion for gardening as evident in the beautiful grounds surrounding the family home, and the bountiful harvests that were so enjoyed by many. A skilled woodworker too, his wonderful creations will be forever cherished by all. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Miriam (nee Ryan); sons, Todd (Joanne), Glen Margaret; R. Scott, Halifax; daughters, Gail (Gary), Halifax; Rhonda (Greg), B.C.; Kelly (Bruce), Hubley; Grandchildren, Janel, Tashia, Tina, Jocelyn, Shawna, Ryan, Ronnie, Danielle, Nicole, Samantha; Great grandchildren, Ethan, Hailey, Max, Makayla, Ben and Ella; brother, Bernie (Eleanor); sister, Ethel Lewis, both of Lindsay Ont. Predeceased by brother, Harvey and sister, Bethel.

A memorial service will be held 2 pm Friday February 18 in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Road, Tantallon, officiated by his nephew, Chaplain Robert Lawder. Grace Darling Cahill

97, of Tantallon passed away peacefully on February 18, 2011 after a brief stay in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in the Lighthouse in Fox Point where she and her family were raised. Grace was the daughter of the late Oliver and Flora Shatford. 

Grace is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Arthur Patrick.

Funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday February 23rd in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. Burial to follow in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to charity of choice. A special thanks to Norman and Betty Hutt for their many years of care and support. Lorraine "Roberta" Sly

of Stillwater Lake, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2011 at the age of 60 with family by her side.  Roberta was born on May 14, 1950 in Regina, Saskatchewan and was the eldest of 4 children.  Roberta is survived by Art, her loving husband of 41 years, her three children, Trevor, Tim (Gail), Stacey Pond (Jeremy) and grandchildren Meredith and Oliver.  She is also survived by two sisters, Pat Macdiarmid (Grant Peltier) and Christine McMaster.  She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Lorraine Waldo and one brother, Rick.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Rev. Kevin Little officiating.  Burial to follow in William Black Memorial Cemetery, Glen Margaret, N.S. Donald Angus Laybolt

61, of Tantallon passed away Friday February 25, 2011 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Ship Harbour he was the son of the late Clement and Ruth (Hirtle) Laybolt. Donnie worked many years as a carpenter in the St. Margaret’s Bay area.Survived by his daughters, Tanya (Aaron Quilty), Tantallon; Lynnett (David) Wambolt, Calgary; and his grandchildren Destiny, Jocelyn and Tylor who were his reason for his courageous fight; brothers, Edwin, Timberlea; Clem, Tantallon; Earl, Mason Point; Gary, Hubbards; sisters, Ethel Orchard, Lower Sackville; Doreen (Ken) Edwards, Bridgewater; Joyce (Albert) Yarn, Hubbards; Susan (Lloyd) Morash, Whites Lake; Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brother Harvey.

Ronald Joseph Blackburn

69, of Hatchet Lake passed away unexpectedly Monday February 28, 2011 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late George and Edna (Bremner) Blackburn. Ron was a conscientious, loyal and dedicated man who worked in the transportation industry as a truck driver. He began his career with Mike Kelly Trucking, then moved on to other companies such as Standard Brands, Dartmouth Metal Works, Kaisers, Mills Heavy Hauling and for the past 16 years with Blackburn Transport Inc. Ron was one of the founding members of the Hatchet Lake Volunteer Fire Department.  He held many different positions there over the years, which included Chief and Deputy.  In his younger years, he played softball and hockey in the Prospect Road Leagues. Ron loved driving his ATV, spending time with friends and family and a nice cold beer.  His smile and love of laughter were contagious, and he will be sadly missed by all. He is survived by his wife Johanne (Ward); son, Michael (Carla), Brookside; daughters, Cara (Jeff Vail), Tantallon; Rhonda (Jeff) Pringle, Upper Tantallon; grandchildren, Jordan, Jenna, Kelsie and Gavin; brothers; Wayne, Tantallon; Robert (Judy), Russell (Gill) and Alan, all of Timberlea; Garnet (Shauna), Tantallon; sisters, Edna “Honey” Slaunwhite, Terence Bay; Shirley (Wayne) Boudreau, Lakeside; Helen (Frank) Vigneault; Phyllis Smith, both of Hatchet Lake.  Predeceased by brothers, George, Gerald, Doug and Kenny; sisters, Dorothy Smith and Barbara Howard.

The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9pm Friday March 4, 2011 in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy’s Cove Road, Tantallon. Funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday March 5th at St. Timothy's Anglican Church in Hatchet Lake, with Rev. Lisa Vaughn officiating. Burial to follow in Sunrise Park Cemetery, Hatchet Lake.
