JONES, Charles "Chuck"
JONES, Charles "Chuck" - 73, of Tantallon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, April 2, 2004. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late King and Mary (Jefferson) Jones. Chuck was a Korean Veteran, having served overseas from March 1951 to April 1952. Following discharge from the Army he joined the Halifax Police Department (1955-61) and until his retirement (1988) he worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Chuck and his wife Gertie enjoyed 15 years of retirement, traveling, fishing and spending time with their grandchildren. Chuck loved the outdoors, especially working in his garden. He was a member of the St. Margaret's Bay Lion's Club and was one of the founding members of St. Margaret's Bay Minor Hockey and Minor Baseball Leagues. He will be sadly missed by his family and special friends, Norm, Bettye, Byron, and Carol. Surviving are his wife, the former Gertie Fraser; sons, Kevin, Halifax; Terry, Dartmouth; daughters, Beverley (Mark) Westhaver, Brenda (Derrick) Rondeau, both of Upper Tantallon; brother, Gerald, Toronto; sisters, Lillian Christian, Yarmouth; Doreen (Evans) Cameron, Trenton, Ont.; Sheila Ratchford, Burlington, Ont.; Hilda (Ray) White, New Waterford; grandchildren, Brian and Andrew Jones, Jason and Laura Rondeau; daughter-in-law, Tina Jones. Family will receive visitors Monday, April 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Tantallon. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 6, at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Church, Tantallon, Father Jim Richards officiating. Burial in St. Margaret's Church Cemetery. CASE, Ian Wolfe
CASE, Ian Wolfe - 70, formerly of Newburne and Queensland, passed away peacefully Friday, April 2, 2004, in Sheldrake Lake Guest Home, Hubley. He was a son of the late Frederick and Leslie (MacGregor) Case. Ian was retired from Artic Resources as Purchasing Manager. He is survived by brother, Peter (Eleanor), Stratford, Ont.; sisters, Bridget (Peter Haller), Montreal; Judy (Ted Small), Ottawa; Heather (Neil Shee), Montreal, and many devoted nieces and nephews. DELAMAR, Ramsey Douglas "Doug"
DELAMAR, Ramsey Douglas "Doug" - 82, Hackett's Cove, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 8, 2004, in the Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born December 17, 1921 in Bootle, England, he was the youngest son of the late Edward and Emily (Rankin) Delamar. During the Second World War, Doug joined the British Army; as a member of the Royal Signal Corps his postings took him to Burma and India. He followed his grandfather and great-grandfather as the third generation serving in India in the British Army. In 1956, Doug immigrated to Canada, with his family joining him the following year. His employers included EMI Cossar, Hermes Electronics and the Nova Scotia Research Foundation. Doug played an active role in the community. For many years, he could be found performing duties as a lay reader, Sunday school teacher and a choir member of St. Peter's Anglican Church in Hackett's Cove. He was a member of the Seabright Legion, Branch 116, holding the position of president and later chaplain. Upon his retirement, Doug, along with his wife, Joan, founded the St. Margaret's Bay White Caps Club for Seniors, serving as president for 10 years. Doug was an avid gardener and loved nothing more than working in his garden. He also enjoyed travel, bowling with the gang and playing in the White Caps Band. Doug is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan (Blundell); daughter, Susan (Frank) Reid, Truro; son, Stephen (Margaret), Rosedale, B.C.; grandchildren, Lisa, Rebecca, Richard, Melissa, Bobby, Jody Lynn, Joseph, Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Keith, Lena, Jenae, Malachi, Jonah; sister, Muriel Smith, Halifax; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Edward; sisters, Irene and Audrey. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors Monday from 7-9 p.m., the Seabright Legion No. 116 will hold a Legion service at 7:30 p.m., both in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. A celebration of Doug's life will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Anglican Church, Hackett's Cove, Rev. Tom Kerr officiating. Committal will follow in the church cemetery. ARMITAGE, Frederick Cyril - 74, Halifax. If is with heartfelt sorrow we announce the passing on April 10, 2004, of this wonderful loving brother, father, grandfather, and above all best friend, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Amy and Ernest Armitage, He retired from B.I.O. in 1990 after 25 years of service. He had a great ability for making new and lasting  friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Fred loved adventure, and had a great knowledge in his surroundings and was always eager to share that knowledge with others. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Royal Temple No. 6 and served as WOS master 1963/97/98/2000. Surviving are his son, Paul (Bonnie), Eddystone, Man.; daughters, Heather Josey, Toronto, Ont.; Leslie Ann Lafrose (Glen); granddaughters, Gina and Anne Marie Armitage and Magie Lafosse.; brother, Ernie (Corrine), Masons Point; sister, Dorothy Keddy, Ontario; his devoted loving companion, Shirley Delaney; extended family, Lee-Anne and Murray Newton; children, Brandon, Kaleigh, Tylor plus Fig Newton. He was predeceased by brothers, Jackie and Arthur; sisters, Beatrice (Dauphine). Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, April 17, in the Blue Room of Freeman's Hall, 1533 Barrington St. Committal service at a later date. Family flowers by request. McEACHERN, Rose Ruby
McEACHERN, Rose Ruby - 74, passed away April 15, 2004, in the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ruby (Garrison) Smeltzer. Rose was a lifelong member of St. James Church and was a dedicated and honorary member of the A.C.W. She was very involved in her community and held various positions with her children's Sunday school, Home and School and J.A., which she was a founding member. In March she was honored by the Parish of French Village Mother's Union for her dedication to her family and church life. She served as president of the Women's Auxiliary, Seabright Legion, Branch No. 116. Through the years, Rose continued to be an active community volunteer and recently became a member of the Guardian Angel project. She enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Les (Debbie Martell), Boutilier's Point; daughters, Debbie (Kevin Boutilier), Upper Tantallon; Louise (Roddy Christie), Haliburton Hills; Rosann, Stratford, P.E.I.; grandchildren, Jeremy and Lori McEachern, Michael and Jan Boutilier, Joel and Quentin Christie; great-grandchild, Helena Christie; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Duncan; brother, Chester; sister-in-law, Rita. Funeral service 4 p.m. today in St. James Anglican Church, Boutilier's Point, Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. ARTHUR, Gordon Francis
ARTHUR, Gordon Francis - 89, Halifax, formerly of Black Point, passed away April 21, 2004, in QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Murphy) Arthur. Gordon lived life to the fullest. He drove for Y Taxi for a number of years, served in the Canadian Army in Canada and the United Kingdom during The Second World War. After the war, he moved to Black Point. He was the founding member of the Black Point Fire Department. He was employed by the Black Point Fire Department until his retirement in 1979. He was involved in activities with St. Anthony's Church in Hubbards, loved coaching hockey in Black Point and Chester. Gordon's NHL team was the one and only Montreal Canadians. His great love was dancing with the Gunther Butchta and the Edgett family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene (Arnett); sons, Owen (Maureen) Worman, Saskatchewan; Bruce (Corrine), Halifax; daughter, Mary Jane (Fred) Dorey, Hubbards; grandchildren, Angela, Allan, Daniel, Amy, Trevor, Erin and Avril; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. CHRISTIE, Peter Morgan Melville
CHRISTIE, Peter Morgan Melville - 63, of Boutilier's Point, left peacefully on his final journey early Thursday morning, April 22, 2004, from the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, following a three month illness. He was a son of the late Fred and Violet (Roberts) Christie, and spent most of his life in Boutilier's Point. Peter's career was varied and during the last fifteen years he was a well-known school bus driver in the Western subsection of the HRM School District. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 37 years, Gwen (Kennedy); beloved daughter, Leanne Christie (Guy Hermanson, her best friend and companion); sister, Judy McCaughey (David); older brother, Bob Roberts (Heather), both of Halifax; nephew, Dennis McCaughey (Kelsie), Timberlea; niece, Christie Vaillancourt (Stephen and daughter Kailyn), Hudson, Mass.; Bob's sons, Danny, David and Allan, Western Canada; Karen Shatford, Halifax. Peter was predeceased in 1979 by his youngest daughter, Sara Louise. His love for her was unending. Peter's love of Western Canada was well-known and, even after more than 10 trips there, his dream was for he and Gwen to spend some time every year during their retirement traveling through the mountains he loved in his beloved motor home "Gracie". Visitation will be held 5-9 p.m. today in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday April 24, in St. James Anglican Church, Boutilier's Point, Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the QEII Health Sciences Foundation in Peter's memory to purchase much needed equipment both at the Nova Scotia Rehab Hospital and the Palliative Care Wing of the VG Site, QEII.
