MACDONALD, Hector Alexander — 67, Timberlea. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Hector Alexander MacDonald on Monday, April 5, 2010. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late James A. and Isobel A. (Trainor) MacDonald. Hector worked for many years in the construction business with his brother, Herbert. Survived by brothers, Clarence (Margaret), Herbert, both of Timberlea; Eric (Alvena), Fort McMurray; Alta.; Dennis (Janet), Hatchet Lake; Blair (Mary-Anne), Timberlea; Sheldon (Diane), Lakeside; sisters, Dianne, Esther (John); Deborah (Ronald), all of Timberlea; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 8 from Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Friday April 9 from St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish, Sacred Heart Church, Lakeside. Father Joe MacKinnon officiating. Burial to follow in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers donations in Hector's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
HUGHES, Eileen Winnifred - 77, of Bedford, formerly of Vaughns, Hants Co., passed away Monday, April 12, 2010, in Cobequid Community Health Center, Lower Sackville. Born in Vaughans, Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late William and Mabel (Peach) Levy. Eileen worked many years with MT & T as a manager for the western end of the province. Survived by her husband, Donald "Bob"; brother, James Levy and a number of nieces and nephews. A family committal service will be held in River Bank Cemetery, Hansport. CARTER (Johnson), Violet Marie- 86, of Halifax, passed away Thursday April 22, 2010, in Northwood Manor, Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Harlie and Teresa (DeStephen) Johnson. Mom's favourite things to do in the early years were the Little Helper's Group and the Annual Variety Show in Hubbards. She also enjoyed dancing with Jack, fishing and travelling to visit their children and grandchildren and playing a good game of cards. Survived by her daughter, Donna Marie (David) Gopp, British Columbia; son, David Johnson (Diane), Burgoyne, Que.; sister, Joanne (Don) Eldershaw, Mill Cove; grandchildren, Natalie, Chantal, Stephanie, Matthew Dale, Shelley Robert, Alicia; great grandchildren, Raymond, Ryan, Haley, Wyatt, David, Riley and Joci; daughter-in-law, Lynn, Sackville; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, John "Jack"; children, Elwood and Ferne; sisters, Marjorie Robinson, Marion Hamlin; brother, Frank Johnson. The family will receive visitors 4-6 p.m. Sunday, in Ronald A. OAKLEY, Roy "Mickey" or "Moke" - 60, Halifax, passed away on April 22, 2010. Born in Halifax, he was a son of late Robert Oakley and Joyce Boyd. Mickey was naturally skilled, working at construction and also fixing various types of engines. He worked on the oil rigs, as a taxi driver and later opened a trucking company. He will be missed by his family and many friends who counted on him whether it was for coffee, spotting him in his car on his travels to work, playing a game of pool, or knowing he was only a phone call away. He leaves behind his partner, Judy; his beloved elder brother, Ritchie; little sister, Mary; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his dearly loved cat, "Bear". A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2nd, in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon, with Rev. Mark Marshall officiating.
BUSH, Norma Marguerite - 84, of Tantallon. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Thursday April 29, 2010 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Norma passed peacefully with her loving husband by her side, and surrounded by her family. Born in LaHave, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Jessie (Pentz) Ernst. As a young lady, Norma enjoyed playing piano, skating, swimming, dancing and riding her bike to work. During WWII, before Norma and Naaman started their family, Norma took great joy in making overalls and jumpers at J.F. Creaser Factory, LaHave. Her love of music was shared with others as she was the organist at her beloved St. Luke's United Church in Tantallon for many years. After that, she and Naaman sang for several years in the St. Luke's choir. Norma loved participating in family outings and celebrations as well as enjoying their community friends in various clubs, such as the White Caps, 50 Plus and Carpet Bowling at the church. Norma is survived by her husband Naaman; son, Carman, Edmonton; daughters, Jeanette (Frank) Stone and Cheryl (Dennis) O'Rourke, both of Stillwater Lake; grandchildren, Bonnie, Jennifer and Erin; great grandchildren, Brett and Keely. Predeceased by her brother, Brenton; sister, Marion; daughter-in-law, Patsy. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday May 3 in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Road, Tantallon. Funeral service 2 pm Tuesday May 4 at St. Luke's United Church, Upper Tantallon. Reverend Kevin Little officiating. Burial to follow in William Black Memorial Cemetery, Glen Margaret. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke's United Church, or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
