COOLEN, Frank Lloyd - 70, Mill Cove, passed away April 1, 2003, at home. Born in Mill Cove, he was a son of the late Moyle T. and Nora May (Jollymore) Coolen. Frank began his working years as a sword fisherman in the summer and in the winter was a freight handler in Halifax. In 1997, he retired from CFS Mill Cove, DND with 25 years of service. He is survived by his wife, the former Dorinda Mae Harnish; sons, Wade (Leisa), Mill Cove; Garry, Sims Settlement; Dwayne (Michelle), Fox Point; brothers, Malcolm (Elva), Mill Cove; six grandchildren. He was predeceased by brother, Verian; sister, Geraldine. Visitation 2-4,

BIGNELL, Frederick William
BIGNELL, Frederick William - 82, Spryfield, passed away April 4, 2003, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Jollimore, he was a son of the late James Frederick and Jessie (Bell) Bignell. Fred joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1937 and retired after 20 years of service. He served with North Atlantic Convoys between 1939-1945. After leaving the military in 1957, he completed his career with 35 years as a civilian radar technician at CFB Shearwater. Fred was well-known as an avid swimmer and was often seen in Northwest Arm (Dingle), Williams Lake and Northcliff Pool. Other pastimes included gardening
and walking his dog. He is survived by daughters, Rhonda (Vincent) Kennedy, Winnipeg; Lois, Halifax; sons, Kevin (Jennie) Bignell, Middleton; James (Michelle), Chester Basin; brothers, Hugh (Peggy), Glen Margaret; Ray (Bernice), Melville Cove; sister, Dorothy Greig (Gordon), Jollimore; sister-in-law, Joan, Jollimore; grandchildren, John (Kellie) Bignell, Hubley; Christie Kennedy, Halifax; Sean Kennedy, Winnipeg; Laura Bignell, Halifax; Matthew and Blake Bignell, Chester Basin. He was predeceased by his wife, Rita (MacDonald); brothers, Victor in infancy, and Lloyd. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

BANFIELD, Claude Eldon - 81, Hammonds Plains, passed away suddenly Sunday, April 6, 2003, in Varadero, Cuba, while vacationing with his best friend and companion, Jacquline Petterson. Claude was a skilled electrician retired from the Halifax Dockyard and Eaton's. Surviving beside his companion are his brothers, Lorne, Tantallon; Frank, Dartmouth. ZINCK,Erna Muriel
ZINCK,Erna Muriel - 84, passed away peacefully April 12, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Florence and Cornelius Zinck. She is survived by her sister, Lily Marguerite Zinck; nephew and nieces. Erna was born in Blandford, but resided in Dartmouth for 45 years. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, baking, blueberry picking, and traveling. Her involvement in clubs brought her great pleasure. She was a charter member of both Blandford Seasiders and Mary Heart Unit, also a member of the Dartmouth North Seniors Club and Dartmouth Senior Service Center. She was a member of both St.
Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford and Emmanuel Church, Dartmouth. A memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Monday April 14, in St. Barnabas Church, Blandford. Rev. Randy Townsend officiating. OULTON, Golden "Keith"
OULTON, Golden "Keith" - 68, Halifax, formerly of Hacketts Cove, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Bay Verte, N.B., he was a son of the late Robert and Tora (Trenholm) Oulton. Keith graduated from Mount Allison University with a bachelor of commerce degree. His first job and love of sweets began at Moirs as a cost accountant. He then went on to work in Ottawa for the federal government, returning to Halifax with HRDC, where he remained until his retirement in 1994. His hobbies and interests knew no bounds having patiently built a 36 foot sailboat from bow to stern with his own
hands. From building stonewalls or clearing the lot for a home in Hacketts Cove to something as fine as carving a bird from a single piece of wood, Keith pursued each interest with equal commitment and enthusiasm. He was an avid golfer, sailor, potter, painter, carpenter and traveler. He was also an avid student whom you could count on having several books on any sport, repair, hobby or interest and was also a willing teacher eager to share his wealth of knowledge with anyone who would listen. He loved to play the mandolin and the sight of his grandchildren dancing to his music would light up his eyes. Saturdays
would always find Keith at the Brewery Market and he made many friends there. He valued their conversation and company. Keith was an elder in the United Church, taught Sunday school and was an active member of his community, who was not afraid to voice his opinion. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, the former Beverly J. Campbell; son, Timothy (Gloria), Tantallon; daughters, Terri (Wayne) Wetendorf, Georgia; Susan (Thomas) Laing, Halifax; brothers, Alison (Judith), Moncton; Donald (Patricia) and Winston, both of Florida; Gary, Toronto; sister, Joan (Dan)

SNAIR, Leola Arlene - 86, Glades Lodge, Halifax, formerly of Black Point, passed away April 12, 2003, in Glades Lodge. She is remembered to be a very strong and independent woman, who took great pride in her gardening, loved baking, knitting, reading, picking berries, and walking to the store. Born in Head of St. Margaret's Bay, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Ellen (Boutilier) Dauphinee. She is survived by son, Raymond, Ontario; grandson, Scott, Boutilier's Point; granddaughter, Tanya (Mrs. Adam Pelley), Boutilier's Point; great- granddaughter, Brooke Pelley, Boutilier's Point; brother, Victor, Herring
Cove; sister, Vera, (Mrs. Lionel Charron), Sudbury, Ont. She was predeceased by husband, Harry; son, Donnie; sister, Myrna (Mrs. Guilford Jennings); brothers, Milton, Melbourne and Russell. KENNEDY, Michael William "Mike" - 88, Queensland, passed away April 18, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, with much grace and great courage after an active and wonderful life, full of loving family and friends. He lived life to the fullest and had a deep appreciation for his surroundings. He was well-known for his sharp wit and quick come backs. He enjoyed numerous volunteer activities "always wanting to help others" until failing hearing led him to have a quiet life style. He was a retired manager with Lawson Graphics Atlantic Limited. Volunteer work included Hubbards Area Lion's Club, church,
Masons as well he was the last surviving member of the original men who organized the Black Point Fire Department. He is survived by his daughters, Clare (David Matthews), Enfield; Diane Kennedy and his son, Robert Kennedy, both of Queensland; grandchildren, Michael and Brian, both of Queensland; Stephanie (Eric Hinch), Sussie and Davy, all of Enfield; Debbie (Kenny Lively), Rawdon; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Brett and Joey; brother, William Kennedy, Queensland; sister, Mae Noble, Saint John, N.B. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Janet Kennedy; his wife, Erva (Dorey); sons, David and

GATES, Stuart Warren "Dinky" - 73, Blandford, passed away Monday, April 21, 2003, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Blandford, he was the son of the late Warren and Sadie (Publicover) Gates. Stuart was an active member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford, Master Mason of the Clarke Lodge 61, Chester, and a member of the Ancient Scottish Rite and was co-founder of Blandford Community Centre. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, gardening, toll painting and working in the woods. Dinky was also an Oddfellow, he was a commissioner and a former fire chief
with Blandford District Volunteer Fire Department and retired from DND Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, the former Annice Publicover; son, Kevin (Catherine), Dartmouth; daughter, Janet (Steve) Robart, Boutiliers Point; sisters, Nina (Ellis) Schnare, Coral Janes, Gloria Stevens; grandchildren, Corey, Susan, Shane, and Logan; sister-in-laws, Dorothy and Kaye; mother-in-law, Sadie Publicover, all of Blandford; numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Nellie (Colp) Corkum and the late Donald Corkum (Hubbards). She is survived by her daughters, Gayle (David) Shanks, Blandford; Justyne (David) Higgins, Hubbards; grandchildren, Gina, Lisa, Nicole and Dylan; brother, Eugene Wayne (Lynn) Corkum, Ottawa; sisters, Charlene (Bruce) Davis, Hubbards; Kandace (Claude) Laurendeau, Hubbards; several nephews and her many friends. Thelma was a retired employee of Canada Post, and was known
for her years of volunteer work. She was co-founder of the Blandford Community Centre, also a member of the Blandford Lodge IOOF, former member of the Blandford Fire Department Ladies Auxillary, the A.R.A. and the Chester Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 44.
