PUBLICOVER, Ernest Franklyn, (Ret.'d) Squadron Leader R.A.F./R.C.A.F. - 82, Hubbards, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2003, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Hubbards, he was a son of the late Wesley and Wilhelmina (Trueman) Publicover. Ernie was a retired RAF and RCAF officer and public servant. He left high school in 1937, and was employed by Maritime Furriers and the Halifax Herald Ltd. until 1939. During this time learned to fly at the Halifax Aero Club. In 1939, he joined the Royal Air Force. He began his pilot training in DeHavilland School of Flying, Hatfield, Advanced Flying and Navigation at RAF Station Hullavington, 1940-1941 Operation Flying with 220 Squadron, RAF, RAF Thornaby, Yorkshire. In 1941-1944, he was an Operation Flying Instructor RAF Derbert, and RAF Nassau, Bahamas. In 1945, he was operational pilot and commanding officer 547 Squadron, RAF Leuchars, Scotland, 1946 civilian pilot, New Glasgow, he then rejoined the RCAF in April 1946 and was a Pilot/Navigation Course, Summerside, P.E.I., 1947 Transport Pilot, RCAF Dartmouth, 1947-1948 flight commander, 103 Squadron RCAF Greenwood, 1948-1949 Chief Administrator Officer, RCAF Summerside, 1949-1952 Staff Officer AFHQ, Ottawa, 1952-1957 Staff Officer, Maritime Air Command, Halifax, 1957-1960 Staff Officer, AFHQ, Ottawa, 1960-1962 Commanding Officer, Search and Rescue 418 Squadron Edmonton, 1962-1965 Staff Officer, AFHQ, Ottawa. Resigning his Commission 1965 to participate in the Federal Election, 1965-1968, he was the Chief Project Officer, National Capitol Area Centennial Commission, 1968-1969 Staff Officer, Controller of the Treasur, 1969-1985 External Affairs, served as Liaison CBC/NFB/Vice Consul, Hamburg, Consul Stockholm, retired a director of Passport Office, Halifax. Moving permanently to Hubbards in 1971. In 1987 he was awarded "Citizen of the Year Award", Hubbards and 1988-89 Awarded Certificated of Appreciation, Nova Scotia Government, 1990 Awarded Certificate of Merit, Canadian Legion; Certificate of Appreciation, Shoreham Village Senior Citizens Association and Plaque for Outstanding Service, Lions Club. Surviving are his second wife, the former Joyce (Harnish, Armstrong); sons, Robert Ernest (Brenda Dunbar), Ottawa; John Osborne (Denise Curley), Hubbards; daughter, Dorothy Jean (Don) Guy, McGraths Cove; grandchildren, Don (Sasha) Guy, Robin Guy (Stephen Lenser), April Guy, Brian Publicover, Heather Publicover, Angela Publicover, Holly Publicover. He was predeceased by son, John Wesley; first wife, Dorothy Emily Osborne; brothers, Fred, John, Albert; sister, Marjorie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Homes. Memorial service 11 a.m. Friday in St. Lukes Anglican Church, Hubbards, Rev. Krista Hilton officiating. NACHAZEL, Dr. Vlado
NACHAZEL, Dr. Vlado - 72, Sheldrake, formerly of Baddeck. It is with great sadness to announce Vlado's peaceful passing, while surrounded by his family, August 13, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Vlado was born in Czech Republic and immigrated to Canada in 1968. Known as the "Vet" he spent 16 happy years practicing in Cape Breton. He believed that family was most important of all, and upon retirement moved to Sheldrake to be close to his children and grandchildren. He had many talents and hobbies, including woodworking and gardening. He loved to debate just about any topic. Whatever he did, he always did his best. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elena; daughters, Jana (David) Gray, Bedford; Vladka (Peter) MacDonald, Tantallon; sister, Vera, Czech Republic; a loving grandfather "deda" to his grandchildren, Shawn, Stephanie, Mark, Victoria and Suzanne. He will be dearly missed by everyone, including Ringo. He was predeceased by both parents. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Tantallon. BROWN, Hilda Pearl - 62, Lower Sackville, passed away Friday, August 15, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Hazel (Yates) Brown. She is survived by sons, Darryl (Marlene) Nicholas, Hubley; Shawn (Dawn) Nicholas, Lower Sackville; brothers, Gordon, Laurie, both of Lower Sackville; Roy, British Columbia; Gill, New Brunswick; sisters, Evelyn Sangster, Clair (Walter) Moore, both of Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Alexander, Jessica, Meagan. ZINCK, Chadwick James Andrew "Chad"
ZINCK, Chadwick James Andrew "Chad" - 31, East River, passed away August 19, 2003, in Northwest Cove. Born in Lunenburg, he was a son of Anthony and Marie (Publicover) Zinck. Chad enjoyed fishing and working on the water. In his spare time he enjoyed working on old cars, boats and anything that needed fixing and he was always available when someone needed an extra hand. Surviving are his brothers, Bricc and Mark, both of East River; sister, Holly (Shawn) McNeil, Salisbury, N.B.; half-brother, David Ginepra, Chicago; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Zinck; maternal grandmother, Marjorie Publicover; nephews, Daniel and Andrew; niece, Kelsey. He was predeceased by paternal grandfather, Reuben Zinck and maternal grandfather, Thomas Publicover. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Ronald A. GORMAN, Charlotte Mary
GORMAN, Charlotte Mary - 76, Boutiliers Point, passed away at home Friday, August 22, 2003. Born in Campbellton, N.B., she was a daughter of the late William and Liza (Combley) MacIntyre. Charlotte was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all. She loved animals and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, sewing, playing piano, fiddle and the guitar. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John Beatty; sons, John, Ingonish; Richard and Gilbert, both of Halifax; Reginald, Antigonish; Timothy, Boutiliers Point; daughters, Dale (Claude) Crews, Queensland; Cheryl (Chris) Fader, Hampton, N.B.; Kathleen (Darryl) Boutilier, Dartmouth; Glenda (Dwight) Bonang, Dartmouth; brothers, Wallace (Edith), Campbellton, N.B.; Kenneth, Campbellton, N.B.; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, James; infant granddaughter, Sarah; brother, Gilbert; sisters, June and Doreen. A family graveside service will be held at a later date by the family's request. FINCK, William "Isaac" - 79, Bayswater, formerly a resident of East Ironbound Island, Lunenburg Co., passed away August 26, 2003, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, after a lengthy illness. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Willis and Mary Ellen (Wambolt) Finck. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mildred E. Welner. Isaac was a inshore fisherman until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Mill Cove United Baptist Church and the Seasiders Senior Citizens Club, Blandford. He will be sadly missed by his sons, Robert (Donna), Barss Corner; Philip (Elizabeth), Boutilier's Point; daughter, Fay Anne (Bob) Isnor, Beaver Bank; lovingly remembered by his grandsons, Jeremie, Jason, Alexander, Laurence Finck, W. Allan and Matthew Isnor, and his granddaughter Katherine Finck; brother, Arthur, Halifax; sisters, Marion McInnis, Halifax; Rita Murley, Berwick. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Lois (Boutilier-Hogue) Gates and the late Alphonse Hogue. She is survived by her spouse, Garnet M. CORNELIUS, Laurie Douglas - 74, Simms Settlement, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Boutilier's Point, he was a son of the late Foster and Maude (Boutilier-Nash) Cornelius. Laurie retired from Citadel Motors in the late 70s with 25 years of service. He is survived by son, Karl (Bev), Ingramport; daughters, Eunice (Greg) and Lyda (Jack Miller Jr.), both of Simms Settlement; brother, Arleigh (Marge), Middle Musquodoboit; sisters, Marion Mombourquette, Boutilier's Point; Nita (Graham) Lavers, Halifax; four grandchildren. CLEVELAND, Vernie Matilda - 87, Shoreham Village, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2003, in Shoreham Village, Chester. Born in Blandford, she was a daughter of the late Enoch and Annie (Burgoyne) Zinck. Vernie was a member of the Seaside Seniors Group and a founding member of the Blandford Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church Guild. She is survived by sons, John (Madelene), Big Tancook; Gordon (Ella Mae), Oromocto, N.B.; daughter, Annie (Wendell) White, Blandford; sisters, Letha (Hugh) Davidson, Quebec; Kate (Burnard) Coolen, British Columbia; Elsie Cleveland, Fox Point; grandchildren, Tina and Peter Weaver, Maine; Leia and Erik, Oberg, South Carolina; Laura Gates, Blandford; great-grandchildren, Keleigh and Issac Weaver, Maine. JOLLYMORE, Walter Leslie - 60, Mill Cove, passed away August 31, 2003, in Mill Cove. Born in Mill Cove, he was a son of the late Hiram and Rhoda (Jollymore) Jollymore. Walter worked in the fishery with the former Burns Fish Plant, Hubbards and at the Cannery at Fox Point. He enjoyed the simple things in life; walking along the shore, sitting with the family cat, Willow or enjoying the classic western TV shows. The highlight of his life was the trip to Expo 67 with his friends. Surviving are stepmother, Nellie Jollymore; brothers, Layton, Aaron (Joan), Vernon (Carolyn), George, all of Mill Cove; Floyd, Fox Point; Leo, Bridgewater; Albert (Kimberley), Hammonds Plains; sisters, Elva Young, Janice, Cora (Perry), all of Mill Cove; Lola (Donald) Ewing, Rhea (Donald) Hogue, both of Simms Settlement; Blanche (Wayne), Upper Vaughan; Rhoda (Ronald) Dean, St. John; June, Tantallon; Linda Young, St. Margaret's Bay.
