GORMAN, John Beatty
GORMAN, John Beatty - 84, Boutilier's Point, passed away suddenly December 2, 2003, in Queen's General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late James William and Pearl Elizabeth (Corkum) Gorman. John retired from VIA Rail in 1984 with 36 years of service and worked 29 years with the Canadian Corp. of Commissioners. He was a decorated veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with the Cape Breton Highlander Black Watch along with the Nova Scotia Highlanders Service Corp. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Seabright Branch 116 and the St. Margaret's Bay Lions Club. John was an avid outdoorsman and spent many wonderful hours at his farm in Caledonia. John will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Surviving are his sons, John, Ingonish; Richard and Gilbert, both of Halifax; Reginald, Antigonish; Timothy (Heather), Boutilier's Point; daughters, Dale (Claude) Crews, Queensland; Cheryl (Chris) Fader, Hampton, N.B.; Kay (Darryl) Boutilier, Dartmouth; Glenda (Dwight) Bonang, Dartmouth; brother, Francis (Mary), Halifax; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Mary (MacIntyre); son, James; infant granddaughter, Sarah; sister, Mary. The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday in St. James Anglican Church, Boutilier's Point, Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. Burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Hubbards. YOUNG, Kathleen Rosalie "Kay" - 98, Upper Blandford, passed away December 15, 2003, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in England, she was the daughter of the late William and Rose (Piper) Etherington. Kay was an active member of the St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford, where she was the organist for many years and treasurer for 29 years. She was a member of the Blandford Seasiders Seniors Club. Surviving are her husband, Scott C.; son, Calvin (June), Bridgewater; grandson, Matthew, Fox Point. She was predeceased by grandchildren, Lisa Ann and Kyle; sisters, Winnifred, Clara, Connie and Isabel. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 20, in St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford, Rev. Randy Townsend officiating. Burial to follow in Blandford Baptist Cemetery. FRASER, Evelyn Unice Ida - 84, Glen Margaret, passed away December 16, 2003, at home. Born in Hackett's Cove, she was a daughter of the late Sherman and Lalia (Boutilier) Covey. Surviving are her sons, Reg (Vera) Fraser, Leslie (Barbara) Fraser, Ivan (April); daughter, Joyce (Roy) Hill; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Victoria Covey, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley William; sisters, Frances and Effie; brothers, William, Raymond, James, and Harold. The family will receive visitors 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Ronald A. PICARD, Jean Pierre
PICARD, Jean Pierre - 68, Bedford, passed away December 17, 2003, in the QEII Heath Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Rollet, Que., he was a son of the late Wilfrid and Fernande (Rioux) Picard. He was a gifted hockey player in his youth and maintained an interest in sports all his life. He was in the insurance industry for more than 40 years as an adjuster and negotiator. He enjoyed the one-on-one conversation with anyone he met. In his retirement years, he had a love of needlepoint, cooking and reading. He was a very proud Dad and husband. He is survived by his wife, the former Nora Smith; son, Sylvain (Suzanne), Barrie, Ont.; daughter, Heidi (Barry) Paul, Abbotsford, B.C.; brothers, Wilfrid, Jean-Guy and Andre, all of Quebec City; sister, Fernande Gagne, Montreal; grandchildren, Forrest Paul, Adam and Logan Picard, Jessica Hill. CORKUM, Nellie Kathleen
CORKUM, Nellie Kathleen - "Ageless" Loved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2003, with her family and pets by her side. Born in West Berlin, Queens Co., she was a daughter of the late Merrill and Nora (Darrow) Colp. Nellie moved to Hubbards in 1949 where she and her husband Donald operated Corkum's General Store until 1969. She entered real estate in 1971 and went on to achieve top awards for her hard work and dedication in the industry. An active and devoted member of St. Luke's Anglican Church and choir, she was instrumental in raising funds over the years to help support many projects such as the new church pews and the development of Bishop's Park. She was also an active member of the Hubbards Heritage Society, where her stage presence will forever be remembered. She is survived by son, Eugene Wayne (Lynne), Ottawa; daughters, Charlene (Bruce) Davis, Kandace (Claude) Laurendeau, both of Hubbards; grandchildren, Kevin Corkum, Vancouver; Tim Corkum, Toronto; Colin Corkum, Ottawa; Gayle Shanks, Blandford; Justyne Higgins, Hubbards; Michael Davis, Hubbards; Nicholas Davis, Vancouver; four great-grandchildren; brother, Noble (Doris) Colp, Timberlea. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; daughter, Thelma; sister, Mossie; brother, Merrill. Nellie enjoyed life to the fullest with family and friends. MORASH, Orland York - 67, West Dover, passed away December 21, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in West Dover, he was a son of the late Foreman and Floresta (McKinnon) Morash. He is survived by brothers, Leonard, West Dover; Morris, Port Clyde; a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Cyril and Donald; sister, Dorothy. KENNEDY, William Thomas
KENNEDY, William Thomas - 80, Queensland, passed away Monday, December 22, 2003, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Queensland, he was a son of the late William and Janet (Parker) Kennedy. Billy was proud of his country and especially of his service as a front line soldier in the Second World War. On his return, he operated the family general store, which was later known as Kennedy's Canteen on Queensland Beach. He was well-known in the community and was an active member of the Liberal Party. He is survived by son, Thomas P., Vancouver; daughter, Sharman Comeau, Yarmouth; sister, Mae Noble, Saint John, N.B.; grandchildren, Gordon, Erin and John Comeau, all of Yarmouth. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice; brothers, Michael, Patrick and Jack. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home. A family committal service will be held at a later date. HOGGARTH, Harold "Hogie" - 78, Seabright, formerly of Thunder Bay, Ont., passed away December 28, 2003, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Hospital, Halifax. Born in Fort William, Ont., he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret Hoggarth. He is survived by daughters, Janice (Donald) Weagle, Seabright; Judi Hoggarth, Asheville, N.C.; Kathryn (Ron) Frey Slidell, Los Angeles; grandchildren, Carl, Elizabeth, Michelle, Jennifer, Jessica and Michael; great-granddaughter, Julia. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Leatrice Johnson; sister, Renee. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Tantallon. SNAIR, Marjorie Christina - 84, Windsor, formerly of Queensland, passed away on December 30, 2003, in Hants County Community Hospital, Windsor, after a brief illness. Born in Ingramport on May 5, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lottie (Murphy) Manuel. She spent her life as a homemaker, her passion was her family. She also helped Burton run their tent and trailer park at Cleveland's Beach, Queensland, and with his other entrepreneurial endeavors. She is survived by her son, Raymond (Bonnie) Snair, Windsor; daughters, Marilyn (Pat) Deegan, Halifax; Susan (Duncan) MacDonald, Chester; brother, Edwin (Shirley) Manual, Ingramport. She was greatly loved and will be missed by her grandchildren, Diana Lawlor and Christina Deegan, John and Steven Snair, Marcie Young, Melanie Blanchard and Mark MacDonald; great-grandchildren, Connor and Myles Snair, Robyn and Julia Lawlor, Abby Blanchard, Morgan and Taylor Snair. She was predeceased by her husband, Burton; brothers, Lawrence, Fred, Walter, Carl, Hubert and in infancy George and Harold; sisters, Nell Snair, Minnie Graves, Mary "Molly" Inkpen and in infancy Betsy. GRAVES, Sherry Ardine - 53, Hubbards, passed away December 31, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Marion E. (Chandler) Coolen, Hubbards, and the late Harry C. Coolen. Sherry was a very active member of her community, working with many community organizations. She was the organist for St. James Anglican Church for over 30 years, where she also taught Sunday school for many years. She is survived by sons, Jim, Hubbards; Gary, New Brunswick; nephews, Paul Coolen, Ireland; Robert and Don Coolen, Red Deer, Alta.; niece, Ann Coolen, Ireland. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip; brother, Gary. The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Saturday, in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards.
