WESTHAVER, Rita Marie -75, Fox Point, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on January 4, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, for their care and compassion. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Catherine (Deveaux) LeBlanc (White). She is survived by her son, Walter "Bubs" (Darlene); daughters, Cathy, (Bernard) Manuel; Darlene (Kevin) Hasler; grandchildren, Stephanie, Amanda, Lianna, Randy, Lauren, Troy; brothers, Sylvester (Joyce), Steve (Eileen), Gary (Donna); sisters, Charlotte (Murray) Owen, Jeanette (David) McMullen; long- time friend, Jack Nissen. She was predeceased by her husband, Victor; brothers, Wilbert (Barbara), Henry and sister, Bridget (Gerald) Young. Rita was a long- standing member of the Hubbards District Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary for over 40 years and also a very active member of I00F Hubbards Union Lodge M.U. and Lodge of Past Grands, in which she held various offices. Working many years at the Shore Club in Hubbards, Rita was well known for her friendly smile and warm sense of humour. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 9, in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Funeral service to be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, in St. Anthony's Church, Hubbards, Father Chinedu Chukwu officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Following the service, the family will receive family and friends for refreshments and fellowship in Hubbards Fire Department, Hubbards. PROFIT, Reginald -65, of Boutilier's Point passed away January 5, 2009, in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Montreal, he was the son of the late Freda Profit. Reg served eight years with the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy). He was a driver for several years with Mentions Oil and Snairs Bakery before beginning his career with the former Halifax County School Board as a bus driver, for 21 years. Reg was an active member of his community; he offered as Municipal Council in the former Municipality; was the former secretary of the Seabright Legion and took great pleasure in Gentleman's hockey and served as president for a number of years. When time permitted, Reg and Kay would enjoy camping at River Land Campground, Elmsdale. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen "Kay"; sons, John (Julie), Seabright; William "Woody" (Kathy), Simms Settlement; Greg (Lynn), Salem Arms, B.C.; daughter, Marie (Glen-Skip) Passfield, Boutilier's Point; grandchildren, Jessica, Christian, Ryan, John David, Brooke and Miranda. He was predeceased by his brother, William. The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, both in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon, Father Lloyd O'Neill officiating. Family flowers only. MacLEAN, Russell Leroy -79, Hubbards, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Hubbards, he was a son of the late Harry and Florence (Cleveland) Maclean. Russell was employed with the federal government, starting as an office boy at the age of 19 with Unemployment Insurance Commission, serving in the RCAF then with the Department of National Defense, and finally with the External Affairs Department in Ottawa and Europe. Russell was associated with many charities in Hubbards in his younger years as a musician, and helped with many amateur shows directing the musical part of the shows. Russell returned to Hubbards with his wife, Suzie after their retirement in 1985. He is survived by his son, Thomas (Rose); a number of nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Suzie; sisters, Hazel, Marguerite; brothers, George, twins, Gilbert and Douglas, Harold, Cyril and John. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 22nd. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, January 23rd, both in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Rev. SNAIR, Byron Maxwell -81, of Boutilier's Point, passed away Monday, January 26, 2009, at home. Born in Ingramport, he was a son of the late Firman and Nellie (Manuel) Snair. Byron was born and lived his whole life as he wished between Ingramport and Boutilier's Point. He had a full life surrounded by his wife, Joan of 50 years and his loving children, Donna, Janice and Jeff. Byron worked for 36 years for Fisheries Canada and was a respected Steward of PSAC for many years. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, twice serving as Master of St. Margaret's Lodge. He retired 19 years ago to spend time with his family, grandchildren and his new great-grandchild, Halle. Byron loved the outdoors. In his retirement, he grew Christmas trees with his son Jeff. Unfortunately, Byron had several health problems which resulted in him spending a great deal of time at QEII Health Sciences Centre. The family would like to extend thanks for their kindness and care. He is survived by his wife, Joan B. (Newman); son, Jeffrey (Patricia), Boutilier's Point; daughters, Donna (Leonard) Stephenson; Janice Snair (Steve Cann); both of Halifax; brothers, Eric, Albert, Malcolm and Clifford; sisters, Dorothy Lohnes, Elizabeth Childs, Kathleen "Toots" Nickerson, Gwen Brown; grandchildren, Erin and Gabrielle Weagle (Andrew Cullum); great-grandchild, Halle Cullum; many nieces and nephews and in-laws including Joan's brother Gary and his wife Anita. He was predeceased by brothers, Keith, Dan, Reginald and Arthur; sister, Evelyn Waltherr. The family will receive visitors 4-7 p.m. Friday and a service celebrating Byron's life, along with a Masonic service, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, all in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax.
