BOUTILIER, Foster James "Ducie— 59, of Upper Tantallon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, June 2, 2009, in QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Foster A. and Lorraine B. (Boutilier) Boutilier. Ducie worked the waterfront as a Longshoreman for over 30 years and was a member of the Longshoreman's Local 269 Union. He enjoyed hunting and fishing; he was fascinated by old clocks and enjoyed collecting them. Ducie was also an avid Fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Foster left behind a heart broken wife of 37 years, Valerie; three wonderful children; daughters, Debbie (Steve) Pauley, Upper Tantallon; Penny (Mike MacDougall), Hubley; son, Trevor (Colleen MacLeod), Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Levi, Tristin, Justin, Jenelle, Chelsea and Julian; brother, Stephen (Angela), Wooden's River, Seabright; nephews, Jereomy, Evan, great-nephew, Shay; mother-in-law, Deborah Fleet, Upper Tantallon. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his father-in-law, Fred Fleet. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Saturday in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. Funeral service 3 p.m., Sunday from St. Margaret's Anglican Church, Tantallon. Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. Burial to follow in William Black Memorial Cemetery, Glen Margaret. PUBLICOVER, Isabel Elsie — 95, of Hubbards, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday June 6, 2009. Born in Hammonds Plains, she was a daughter of the late Charles Martell Bezanson and Jane (Melvin) Bezanson. She taught school in Nova Scotia for 35 years, in Upper Lakeville, Waverly, Hammonds Plains, Hubbards, Fox Point, RCAF Beaverbank, Halifax and Tantallon. Isabel was a lifelong member of the First United Baptist Church in Hammonds Plains. She was a member of the Hammonds Plains branch of the I.O.D.E. She attended St. Luke's Anglican Church in Hubbards and was a member of the A.C.W. She was predeceased by her husband, John Wesley Publicover, and her sister Dorothy (George) Evans. Surviving are her daughters, Laurie Mireau, Halifax; Carol (Donnie) Webb, Hubbards; grandsons, Kit (Reiko) Wilkes, Peter Wilkes, James (Sheree) Mireau, John Robert Mireau, and great-grandchildren, Breanna Wilkes, Sam Mireau and Sophie Mireau. There will be no visitation. A celebration of Isabel's life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday June 11 in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Family flowers only please. MUIR-REID, Vera Mae — 89. It is with deep sadness that the family of Vera Muir-Reid announces her passing on June 20, 2009, in St. Vincent's Nursing Home, Halifax. Born in Boutilier's Point, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Minnie (Langille) Boutilier. She will be sadly missed by her loving niece, Florence "Sis" and husband, Lyndon McIsaac; stepdaughter, Margaret Reid. She was a special "Nanny" to Jeff and Heather McIsaac, and a wonderful aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is survived by sisters, Evelyn Hartlen, Halifax; Marion Whiting, Fox Point; Katherine (Keith) Mahaney, Aylesford; Mona (Ralph) Dorey, Boutilier's Point; brother, Eric (Masie) Boutilier, Boutilier's Point; She was predeceased by her first husband, Clarence Muir; second husband, Wilbert "Bill" Reid; sisters, Lillian, Ella, Prena, Iona and Florence; brothers, Warren, Murray and Cyril. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity and caring ways for others. She worked at Simpson's for many years. Spending time with her family and going on bus trips with her friends at the Basinview Senior's Club were her most enjoyable pleasures. Special thanks to all the staff of St. Vincent's Nursing Home, especially the 3rd floor angels, disguised as nurses and pcw's. Also a very special thank you to nephew Stephen Lane who spent countless hours visiting with Vera. No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. COOLEN (Farmer), Jean Lillian — 76, of Fox Point. Sadly Jean's family announce the passing of a loving mother, grandmother and sister in South Shore Regional Hospital on Thursday June 25, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Beatrice (Mitchell) Farmer. Jean was an avid fan of her son, daughter's and grandchildren's sporting events and was always be on the sidelines with encouragement. She was known throughout her community as a terrific cook and will be remembered fondly by many. Survived by son, Brian (Clarissa), Fox Point; daughters,
Darlene "Cookie" (Edward) Young, Fox Point; Heather (Chris) Harnish, Mill Cove; sister, Edna (John) Bowser, Halifax; grandchildren, Tiffany, Corey, Courtney, Ryan, Shauna, Matthew and Tamara; great-grandchildren, Avery, McKenna, Liam; several nieces and nephews. RIDEOUT, George Allan — 47, of Frank George's Island, St. Margaret's Bay, passed away Thursday June 25, 2009 as a result of a drowning accident in St. Margaret's Bay. Born in Grand Bank, NFLD, he was the son of John Rideout and Emma Rogers (Anstey). Survived by sons, Wilson Dave, John Allan and Michael James, all of Seabright; daughter, Linda Marie (Jimmy), Seabright; brothers, Sam (Ann), Fortune, NFLD; Gerald (Peggy), Dartmouth; Ronald (Wanda), French Village; sisters, Margaret (Harry) Green, New Melbourne, NFLD; Anne (Louis) Boland, French Village; Alice (Leonard) Green, New Melbourne, NFLD; Tracey (Claude), Souir, PEI; grandson, Dylan James. The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Tuesday June 30th. A celebration of life will be held 10 am Wednesday July 1st both from the Ronald A. BERRINGER, Lottie Mae — 92, of West Dover passed away Saturday June 27, 2009, in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in West Dover, she was the daughter of the late Rosetta Zinck and her adopted parents Judson and Ida Cleveland. Survived by her daughter, Pauline (Foster Publicover) Duggan, West Dover; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Stanley; sons, Clifford and Elwood "Dick"; companion, Reginald Morash; grandson, Geoffrey Duggan; stepsister, Cecilia Morash. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. SHERWOOD, Melvin Richard — 80, of Allen Heights, St. Margaret's Bay, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009, at home. He was the youngest and last remaining member of his family. Born to the late Joseph and Kziah Sherwood of Sydney, on February 18, 1929, he was educated in the city of Sydney School System. This was followed by graduation from NSAC, Truro, and MacDonald College, Quebec. He received his B.Sc. in Economics from McGill University, Montreal and Masters Degree from Dalhousie University, Halifax. Melvin was the Atlantic Regional Economist for the Federal department of Fisheries from 1956 - 1962. He was also the Regional Economist for the Atlantic Provinces with Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Mel established the position in the Atlantic Region as part of a management team to undertake numerous economic studies to determine the need and demand for investment in various localities throughout the Atlantic Region. He also developed and maintained an intelligence system for the data pertinent to the position. He was also director, Economics for Cape Breton Development Corporation promoting and developing a number of housing projects. Liaison officer in the take over and operation of Point Edward Industrial Park. Regional Director, CMHC, P.E.I., then returned to Nova Scotia for retirement. Mel published works, including "The Housing Component of the Royal Commission into the Economic Prospects of Newfoundland and Labrador" and "Study of the Housing Market in Newfoundland", followed by a study of the housing market in the Atlantic Provinces, thesis for his Masters degree at Dalhousie University. He was commissioner of Oaths for the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. Mel is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Geri Chaddock; son, David (Elaine), Halifax; daughter, Ardyth (Allison Drake), Moncton, N.B.; grandsons, Rodney (Karen), Greg (Nicole), Noel; granddaughter, Adenna, Moncton; great-grandsons, Ethan and Liam. The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. today, June 30th. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday July 1, both from the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. Burial to follow in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax. In lieu flowers donations can be to the Nova Scotia Cancer Society.
