CHASE, Lorraine Dorothy - 49, Simms Settlement, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Ronald and Vera (Stone) Ewing. Lorraine was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was an avid baseball player and a statistician of S.S.L.D.L., of which she was a member for 18 years. Lorraine was a hard worker and in the last few years she worked at Darlene's Family Restaurant in Hubbards. She is survived by her husband, Bill; son, Kirk (Jennifer), Mill Cove; daughters, Wendy Bennett, Bayswater; Loretta (Jamie Randall), Hubbards; Danielle, at home; brothers, Robert (Marie), Maitland; Donnie (Lola), Simms Settlement; David (Jeanette), New Waterford; Gordie (Mary), Maitland; Douglas (Roxanne), Brighton, Ont.; Steve (Suzanne), Chester; Hilliard, Port Lorne; Arthur (Linda), Halifax; sisters, Margaret Covey, Winnipeg; Jean (Wilfred) Morash, Simms Settlement; Grace (Joe), Stephenville, N.L.; Betty (Art) Boutilier, Dartmouth. The light of Lorraine's life were her grandchildren, Robbie, Morgan, Curtis, Austin, and Patrick; many nieces and nephews, and very special friend, Lorna MacLean. She was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Walter, and niece, Roberta . Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. TURNER, Shirley Ann - 59, Mill Cove, passed away Friday, June 2, 2006, at home. Born in Newfoundland, she came to Nova Scotia in the 1970s and practiced nursing in the Halifax area until 1992. Shirley and her husband moved to the Hubbards area where they have lived for the past 10 years. It was Shirley's wishes there be no visitation or funeral service. Shirley is survived by her husband, David, Mill Cove; mother, Noreen, and brother, Raymond, Sackville. Services have been entrusted to Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home. COOLEN, Cecil Alexander - 97, Wentworth Road, Windsor, formerly of Fox Point, passed away Monday, June 5, 2006, in Windsor Elms, Windsor. Born in Fox Point, he was a son of the late Salem and Bessie (Boutilier) Coolen. Cecil was a bible student for many years and a lifelong member of Fox Point Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Besides being a fisherman, he was a fur merchant for a number of years. He enjoyed music and played several musical instruments. FISHER, Jonathan Hylton "Jon" - 55, Queensland, passed away suddenly on June 3, 2006, after a brief illness. Born in Toronto, he was a son of the late Miriam J. (Olthouse) Kidd and Lawrence A. Kidd. Jon was a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. He began his working career with Canadian National Railway and went on to Canada Post. He then became a longshoreman on the Halifax Waterfront and was a long-standing member of the International Longshoremen's Association, Local 269. Jon was an avid reader, sailor and sport fisherman. He was an accomplished musician who took an active role in the local music industry. Jon was solely responsible for bringing Delbert McClinton to the Olympic Gardens in August of 2005 for a benefit concert in honour of his late mother. He was a formidable opponent at a game of Scrabble or cribbage. Jon had a quick wit and an ability to tell a joke or story with inimitable facial expressions which will be a fond memory for all who knew him. Jon is survived by his much-loved children, Alexandra and Sean, Halifax; loving brothers, Bob (Mary), Mark (Diana), Michael Kidd (Phyllis), David Kidd (Linn), Halifax; Stephen Kidd (Margot), Ontario; Terry Kidd, British Columbia; sister, Judy Wombolt, Halifax; many nieces and nephews. Jon was predeceased by his father, Walter G. Fisher. The family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, with funeral service on Monday, June 12, at 11 a.m., both to take place in Ronald A. JENNINGS, Guilford Ransal - 88, Head of St. Margaret's Bay, passed away June 8, 2006, at home. He was the son of the late Stanton Edwin and Naomi Eldora (Jennings) Jennings. He is survived by his daughter, Janet; son-in-law, James Morrison; grandsons, Tyrel and Stephen; sisters, Mernie Roy, Florida, and Kathleen Jennings, Halifax. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Vera (Mrs. Lionel Charron), Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife, Myrna (Dauphinee); sisters, Retha Dorey and Mazie Mood. MILLER, Rev. Sam W. - Halifax, formerly of Hubbards, passed away suddenly as a result of a motor vehicle accident Saturday, June 10, 2006. Born in Champney's, N.L., he was a son of John and Rhoda (Randall) Miller. Educated in Newfoundland and Halifax, he was an active Anglican Priest for 38 years, serving parishes of Newport-Walton, Hubbards, New Glasgow and Halifax. After serving 15 years as rector of St. Philip's Church, Halifax, he retired in 1987 and moved, along with his wife LilyBud, to their beloved retirement home in Hubbards which they had previously built in 1968. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, LilyBud; daughters, Stephanie (Lee); Jan (Bill); granddaughters, Meghan and Erin; grandson, Mark; brother, Roland; sisters, Anne, Hilda and Ella, who reside in St. John's, N.L. He was predeceased by brother, Obie, and sister, Elsie. He was truly the most loving husband, father and grandfather that this family could have been blessed with. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, in St. Luke's Anglican Church, Hubbards, The Right Reverend Fred Hiltz officiating, assisted by Rev. BOUTILIER, Alvin Henry Joseph - 71, Seabright, passed away Monday, June 19, 2006, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Seabright, he was a son of the late Ernest and Isabelle (Morash) Boutilier. Alvin worked 18 years as a mechanic with Wood Motors Ford before returning to the waters of St. Margaret's Bay where he fished commercially until his health forced him to retire. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Lottie Mae Doubleday; son, David (Sandra), and daughter, Donna (Jeffrey Lindas) Boutilier, both of Seabright; brothers, Melvin (Thelma), Halifax; Sydney (Pauline), David, Wilson (Eileen), Willard, and sister, Lillian, all of Seabright; his granddaughters, Alina and Andrea Boutilier (his little angels), and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Gerald; sisters, Lorraine and Hilda; a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Ronald A. PUBLICOVER (DeMone), Deborah Ann - 44, Blandford, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Charles and Shirley (Maltus) DeMone. She is survived by her husband, Tyrill, and her sweet girls, Alisha and Julia, at home; brother, Robert (Pam), Halifax; sister, Cathy (Edward) Publicover, Five Island Lake; many nieces and nephews. Debbie was employed for 27 years in the sales tax departments of the Provincial and Federal Government. She was active in her community and a member of the Blandford and Area Fire Auxiliary, Aspotogan Recreation Association and the Board of Directors of Blandford Community Centre. She loved reminiscing about days of the Shack, enjoyed reading, dancing and community socials, and her love of animals found Debbie visiting the exhibitions and fall fair each year. LENNOX, Jean Murray - 74, Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou Co., formerly of Black Point, Halifax Co., passed away Wednesday June 28, 2006, in Aberdeen Regional Hospital, New Glasgow, due to complications from Alzheimerís disease. Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Isabella (Murray) Tait. Jean graduated from Glace Bay School of Nursing in 1952 then continued her studies at Dalhousie University and graduated with a Teaching and Supervision Nursing Degree (1954). Jean had a great passion for children and especially babies. She taught nursing at the Childrenís Hospital in Halifax until 1960, then retired to raise her children. Jean will be remembered as a very kind, gentle, compassionate and loving person who devoted her life to her family and friends. All children in the community knew her for her chocolate chip cookies. Jean also enjoyed celebrating birthdays with her close friends, always thinking of those around her. Her family and friends will dearly miss her. Jean is survived by her children, Dawn M. (Scott Barry), Black Point; David B. (Susan Kaye), Montreal; Kevin S. (Etta), Upper Tantallon; Lynda J. (Kevin MacDonald), Lower Sackville; brother, Stuart (Betty) Tait, North Sydney; grandchildren, Adele, Liam, Alyssa, Sydney, Aaron, Maxwell, Aliyah; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, David S. (November 2005); brothers, Alexander, Henry, William, Theodore, Raphael (in infancy), and sister, Agnes Gosselin. Cremation has taken place.
