WESTHAVER, Earl Edwin
WESTHAVER, Earl Edwin - 94, Mill Lake, passed away Monday, March 15, 2004, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Fox Point, he was a son of the late Noble and Prudence (Miller) Westhaver. Earl started working in the Lumber Industry at the early age of 13 before becoming a heavy machine operator. He worked for a number of years for Municipal Ready Mix, Sydney. He operated Westhaver Irving in Sims Settlement from 1955-1971 before retiring. He is survived by his wife, the former Beatrice McCelland; sons, Robert (Ritha), Hubbards; Terry (Francesca), Windsor; Lloyd, Halifax; Mark (Margie), Hubbards; daughters, Joanne, Sims Settlement; Nancy, Western Canada; eight grandchildren; a number of great- grandchildren; sister, Beulah Clinton, Chester Basin. He was predeceased by brothers, Guy, Judson, John, Walter and Victor; sisters, Glyde, Aileen, Phyllis, Florence, Rhoda, Gladys and Dora. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Thursday, both in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards, Rev. Jim Green officiating. Committal to be held at a later date in St. James Anglican Church Cemetery, Fox Point. PUBLICOVER, Bentley Leo
PUBLICOVER, Bentley Leo - 84, Blandford, passed away Monday, March 15, 2004, in Hubley, HRM. Born in Blandford, he was the son of the late Vivian Publicover. Bentley was a veteran of the Second World War, and a member of the Royal Canadian Branch, Chester. He was also a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford. He is survived by his sister, Olivia (David) Russell, Blandford; niece, Jan Mann, Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Margaret Mae Allen. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday, with a Legion service at 7 p.m. in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday in St.Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford, Rev. J. PIPPY, Gordon Brenton
PIPPY, Gordon Brenton - Ingramport, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Palliative Care Unit, the VG Site, QEII, on Monday, March 22, 2004, at the age of 69, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Halifax, November 18, 1934, he was a son of the late William and Shirley (Walsh) Pippy. He worked as a burner service mechanic for 30 years for Cunard's, Irving and Esso. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trips to Florida, his truck, playing his guitar and singing. He was a dedicated member of the Worldwide Church of God, and a faithful servant to his calling. He used his gifts and talents to help others. His warm smile, gentle manner, and witty humor made people feel comfortable in his presence. His generous, unselfish, outgoing love touched the hearts of many. He is survived by his loving wife, Violet (Misner); daughters, Brenda Pippy, Centreville; Crystal MacInnis, Ingramport; Bonita Lucas Crews, Boutilier's Point; and son, Terry, Ingramport; sons-in-law Murray MacInnis and David Crews; grandchildren, Michelle, Douglas, Holly, Jason, Trevor, Diandra and Marina; and great-grandson, Brandon. He is also survived by brothers, William "Billy", Harrietsfield; Gerald "Gerry", Prospect; and sister, Jeannie, Stewiacke. He was predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Lavers and Violet MacInnis. Gordon - son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend - will be warmly remembered and sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He was The Great Gordo. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 25, with a memorial service to be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 26, both in Ronald A. GEORGE, Joseph R. "Joe"
GEORGE, Joseph R. "Joe" - 60, passed away quietly March 27, 2004, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, following a long struggle with chronic lung disease. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Joseph and Dorothy May (Smith) George. As a young man he had a keen interest in sports, having managed the Chester Merchants hockey team for many years, and also umpired softball in the St. Margaret's Bay area for several years. He held three trade certificates, but carpentry was his greatest love. For several years he had his own contracting company and then ended his career as a building inspector with the City of Halifax. He served on the executive of both the Federal and Provincial Progressive Conservative parties, but was most active in the local Chester-St. Margaret's riding. His fondest passion was his gardening, wanting only to get well enough to come home from hospital to plant his flowers. Surviving are his wife, Connie (Baker); daughters, Cheryl Clarke, Enfield; Patricia (Bruce) George-Zwicker, Chester Basin; Theresa, Hubbards; brothers, Leslie, Hubbards; Wayne, Dartmouth; sister, Gloria Staats, Hamilton; half-brother, Dale Young, Tantallon; sister-in-law, Shelley Veinotte, Clearland; grandson, Matthew; special aunt, Joan Smith, Shelburne; uncles, Ivan Smith, Blacks Harbour, N.B.; Bob Smith, Hamilton; aunt, Margaret Fisher, Liverpool; many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by half-brother, Johnny Young; half-sister, Wendy Deforest; special uncle, Gordon Smith (Shelburne), and uncle, Amos (Barrington). Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards, where memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Jim Greene officiating. WHEATLEY (Mont), Alicia Alberta
WHEATLEY (Mont), Alicia Alberta - Daughter of the late John and Laura, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by husband, Herbert; brothers, Jack, Murray, Norman, James, Arthur, and Ron; sisters, Annie, Ethel, Minnie, and Shirley. Siblings Robert and Laura died in infancy. She is survived by sons, Bert and Ross; daughter, Judith; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. For many years, until her retirement at age 60, Alicia worked for the Unemployment Insurance Commission. She was blessed with a marvellous singing voice and was a past member of the ladies barbershop chorus, The Citadel Chimes and was a long-time member of Bethany United Church. Cremation has taken place under the care of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. A memorial service will be held in Bethany United Church, Armdale, on Monday, April 5, at 2 p.m., Rev. Vincent Ihaz officiating, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Bethany United Church.
