BROWN, Frederick A. - Peacefully in Perth Community Care Center, Perth, Ont., on
Monday, March 7, 2005, Frederick A. Brown in his 89th year. Husband of the late
Audrey (Copp) Brown. Loved father of David and Ginette, Doug and Mary, Stephen
and Susan Brown, and the late Heather. Cherished grandfather of Jennifer Ann
Proudfoot, Diane Proudfoot, Jennifer Woonton-Brown, Kate and Mike Brown, Anna
Rutledge, Stephanie and Julia Brown; great-grandfather of Liam Gaither. Dear
brother of Marion (late Charles) Scott, Bertha (Arthur) Langille, Rev. Wilena
Brown, Eva (late Gordon) McRae, Edward (Leona), Samuel (Julie) and Alec (Julie)
Brown, and the late Gertrude (James) Hilder, Margaret (Fulton) Hoare, Jean
(Samuel) Shaw, Albert (Stella), Andrew (Elsie) and Donald Brown. He was
predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Rachel (Christie) Brown. Fred will be
sadly missed by his sisters-in-law, Jean Brown, Elizabeth Woonton; his nieces,

Well-known community
and business leader dies at 66
NICHOLAS, Donald Frank - 66, Fox Point, passed away Wednesday, March 9,
2005, in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was the
son of the late Fenwick and Nora (Coolen) Nicholas. Don will be
remembered as a loving, devoted husband and father. His many friends, co-workers
and partner will also remember his cheerful presence and humour and he will be
greatly missed by all that new him. Don was employed
in the transportation industry for over 40 years and for the last 10 years as a
broker with KTS Logistics Inc. He was an active chartered member of the Hubbards
Area Lions Club, serving in all positions over the years and in
the year 2000, he was honored as life member of the Lions International for his
outstanding service. He was a former member of the Hubbards and District
Volunteer Fire Department. Don's true passion was woodworking,
especially with the scroll saw. His award winning creations have touched the
hearts of people far and wide. Survived by his loving wife of 43 years, the
former Joan Rutledge; daughter, Sally Ann, Fox Point; brother, Douglas (Doris),
Spryfield; sister, Patricia Boutilier, Calgary, Alta. Visitation Sunday, 2-5

RICHARDSON, Florence "Mabel"
RICHARDSON, Florence "Mabel" - 86, Melville Garden, formerly of Indian Harbour,
passed away peacefully on March 12, 2005, surrounded by her family. Born in
Indian Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Bertha (Miller) Covey.
Mabel was a devoted member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church. She enjoyed her
membership in White Caps and Fifty-Plus Seniors Clubs. Her favourite pastimes
were card games, reading, and traveling. She will be sadly missed by daughters,
June Morash, Doreen (John) Kozak, Janet (Billy) Isnor, Gloria Swaysland, Betty
(Clyde) Rondeau; son, Dennis Richardson; 17 grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren, and sister, Marjorie Hood.
She was predeceased by husband, Clement; sons, Donnie and Terry; brothers, Earl
and Winfred "Joe"; sisters, Avis, Lola, Mary "Jane"; grandsons, Lloyd and Edgar,
and granddaughter, Tracy. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be

BOUTILIER, Eugene Frederick Sr. "Boots"
BOUTILIER, Eugene Frederick Sr. "Boots" - 76, Seabright, passed away peacefully
March 14, 2005, at home surrounded by his family. Born in Halifax on September
6, 1928, he was a son of the late Foster and Lily (Streeter) Boutilier. Eugene
and Bertha (loving wife of 52 years), moved to Seabright, Halifax Co., in 1964.
Eugene was employed by Flemming's Foundry and Hillis Foundry in Halifax for
several years. Later buying a company from his employer Ed Gould of Guardian
Maintenance, known as E.F. Boutilier's Oil Pumping, and successfully ran this
Marine Lubrication business for 41 years before retiring in 1996. Eugene pumped
lube oil aboard Her Majesty the Queen's ships and worked with the largest oil
companies in North America. Eugene was also responsible for starting the regular
weekly garbage collection on the Peggy's Cove Road from 1965-1977. After
retiring in 1996 he loved to work with wood in his garage and made lawn
furniture and crafts. He was a very loving and caring man to all his family,
friends and strangers in need. He is survived by his loving wife, the former
Bertha Hamm; sons, Eugene Jr. (Debbie), Middle Village; Robert, Glen Haven;
daughters, Lily (Murray) Brennan, Chezzetcook; Katina (Terry) Richardson, Glen
Haven; brothers, Ernest (Berneice), Halifax; Earl, Gold River; David, Gold
River; sisters, Ruth (Percy) Wilneff, Mahone Bay; seven grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. He was predeceased by son, Kevin; brothers, Henry, Foster
Cyril, and John; sister, Joyce. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9
p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove

RHYNO, Gordon R. - 89, Head of St. Margaret's Bay, died peacefully on Wednesday
afternoon, March 16, 2005, in Country Living Estates Senior's Residence, Hatchet
Lake. He was a son of the late Horatio and Lottie (Langille) Rhyno. He will be
remembered by all knew him for his generosity and keen sense of humour. He is
survived by his loving family, sons, Robert (Kathy), Ted (Florence), Wayne
(Jill), Stephen (Kathleen); daughters, Joan (Roy) Brooks, Marion Graves, June
(John) Rondeau, Pat (Gerald) Legge, Wanda Shaw; brothers, Roy, Halifax; Weldon

CROUCHER (Paul), Phyllis Mary "Filly" - It is with great sadness that we
announce the death of Phyllis Mary "Filly" (Paul) Croucher, Indian Harbour/Millbrook.
Phyllis, aged 57, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on
March 21, 2005, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born and raised in
Truro, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Irene Paul (Cope). The love of
her life was her grandchildren and children, along with being an avid flower
thief from her daughter's yard. Phyllis was a regular at the East St. Margaret's
School in Indian Harbour where she was a volunteer reader. She had attended the
Truro Community College in her later years to take her GED. Then she attended
the Teachers College of Truro to take Early Childhood studies. She was a former
member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 116 in
Seabright. She is survived by her loving daughters, Colleen (Rick) and Heather
(Timothy); grandchildren, Mason Paige, Steffie, and David; great-grandchildren,
Autumn and Bret; her devoted loving sisters, Cecilia, Evelyn and Marie (Peter)
Magwood; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She will also be
missed by her cat, Fat Cat. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Edward
and daughter, Sherri-Lynn in infancy. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Saturday, March 26, in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd.,
Tantallon, followed by visitation from 2 p.m. onward on Sunday, March 27, at 31

MacINTOSH, Donald Bernard
MacINTOSH, Donald Bernard - 77, Tantallon and formerly of Halifax, passed away
Thursday, March 24, 2005, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in
Halifax, he was a son of the late John and Agnes (MacDonald) MacIntosh. Donald
worked as a firefighter with the city of Halifax and as an ambulance driver for
the VG Site, QEII. Don and his wife also operated the former Ardmore Rest Home
in Halifax and for the past 14 years operated the Wine Cellar in Tantallon.
Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Purcell; daughters, Deanna,
Tantallon; Leslie Sampson, Port Hood; grandchildren, Rebecca Sampson, Port Hood;
Keith Sampson, Halifax. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in

EAGLES, Jean Elizabeth - 70, passed away Monday, March 28, 2005, in QEII Health
Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Fox Point, she was a daughter of Eileen (Dorey)
Mosher, Halifax. Jean was a member of the former Hubbards and District Volunteer
Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and St. James Anglican Church ACW. She was also
active with the Canadian Red Cross during the Swiss Air disaster. For many years
she worked as the Avon representative in the Hubbards area. Her family and wide
circle of friends will remember her ability to cook and prepare for any
occasion, "she was known as the Mill Lake party association". She is survived by
her spouse, Mike Westhaver; sons, Michael David (Doris), Fox Point; Robert
William (Dianne), East River; daughter, Kathryn (Roger) Elliot, Florida;
brothers, John, Fred and Cecil Mosher; sisters, Carol (Sam) Collins, Bertha
(Ron) Harper, all of the Halifax area; grandchildren, Chantal, Jonathan, Kelsey,
Christopher, Megan; great-grandchildren, Conor, Nicholas, and Elizabeth. She was
predeceased by first husband, Bill; brother, Stanley; sister, Hazel. Visitation
