GATES, Graham Heman
GATES, Graham Heman - 90, Blandford, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Blandford, he was a son of the late Heman and Phoebe (Publicover) Gates. Graham was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the Merchant Navy for 11 years. A member of Branch No. 44, Royal Canadian Legion, Chester, he was also a member of the "Independent Order of Odd Fellow Manchester Unity" since 1947 including two years as Provincial Grand Master of Acadia District. He served as president of Blandford Seasiders Senior Citizens Club for two years and was a member of St. Barnabas
Anglican Church, Blandford. He was also a founding member of the Blandford District Fire Department. He retired from CFS Mill Cove. He is survived by his son, Alfred (Chrystal), Blandford; brother, Ira (Lois), Birchy Head; sisters, Hilda Robinson, Victoria, B.C.; Alice (Murray) Cooper, Halifax; three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Vella Perry; second wife, the former Eva Phillbrick; sisters, Dorothy, Pauline, Helen, Phoebe Doris, and sisters, Ruby and Jean in infancy; brother, Walter in infancy. ISNOR, Howard Basil
ISNOR, Howard Basil - 83, Indian Harbour, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2003, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Indian Harbour, he was a son of the late Aubrey and Alena (Richardson) Isnor. Howard was a fisherman and freight handler all his working life. He enjoyed bowling, movies and was an avid crib player for the past 32 years. Howard's love and devotion for his wife and family will be always remembered. He is survived by his wife, the former Edna Richardson; sons, Roger (Charlotte), Leslie (Jennifer), Blair (Cindy), all of Hacketts Cove; daughters, Sandra (Gordon) Boutilier, Hacketts Cove; Linda (Reynold)
James, Simms Settlement; Barbara (Paul) Landry, Lower Sackville; Bonnie (Larry) Farris, Fairview; brothers, Edgar, Prince Edward Island; Roland, Indian Harbour; Gordie (Florence), New Ross; Gilbert, Indian Harbour; sister; Vella Chalker, Ontario; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, May. BOYD, Joyce Georgena - 76, Wolfville, formerly of Halifax, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in Northwood Manor, Halifax. Born in Cambridge, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Richard and Mary (Harnish) Wetmore. Surviving are sons, Richie, Dartmouth; Roy, Halifax; daughter, Mary, Ontario; stepsons, Jack, Fred; stepdaughters, Diana, Alene, Susan; granddaughters, Robin, Melanie; grandson, Robert Lee; great-grandchildren, Samaron and Kirin; sister, Audrey (Walter), Halifax. She was predeceased by first husband, Robert "Bob"; second husband, John Boyd; son, Steven; granddaughter, Noel; sister, Gloria Troop. A
memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549, Hwy. 333, Tantallon, Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. MacLEOD, Ronald Duncan
MacLEOD, Ronald Duncan - 55, Tantallon, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003, at home. Born in Florence, Cape Breton, he was a son of Donald D., Big Bras d'Or, and the late Annie T. (Peet) MacLeod. Ronald's early education was in Florence and Sydney Mines and he was also a graduate of Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro. He was the Department Head of the Industrial Arts program at Sir John A. MacDonald High School and also taught at Sackville and Millwood High Schools. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed playing the guitar and was a talented wood craftsman. He is survived by sons, Gavin, Halifax; Ryan (Tanissa),
Montreal; brother, Dan (Judy), Big Bras d'Or; sisters, Donalda Kyte, Millville; Ruth (George) MacNeil, Mill Creek; former colleague and special friend, Audrey O'Leary, East Margaree. Besides his mother, he was predeceased by brother, Roddie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Homes. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. today in Wilson United Church, Florence, Rev. Bill Thomas officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.
