DRISKILL, Cynthia Joyce Elizabeth
DRISKILL, Cynthia Joyce Elizabeth - 62, Hubbards, passed away Monday, November 10, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Joyce I. (Pilcher) Drope, Halifax and the late James B. Drope. Cynthia graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax. In her youth, and into middle age, she was an avid skier and sailor, a provincial and maritime ladies ski champion, and a founding member of the Canadian Ski Patrol system in Nova Scotia and also a former member of the Armdale Yacht Club, where she received many racing trophies. Cynthia attended Brigham Young University in Utah, where she met her husband Ron; she also worked as a floriculturist for several years at Olds College in Olds, Alta., and also as a cosmetologist for awhile. Until her death, she worked as the partyliner for Hubbards with CBC and as the associate editor of the Masthead News, writing some of the stories for each issue, answering the phone and doing graphic layout for the paper. She had also put together a tourism magazine, not associated with the Masthead News for a year. Cynthia was always thoughtful of others, went out of her way to help when help was needed, and even when it wasn't. Her many acts of kindness and her pleasant personality were always her trademark. She was a great mother, always making sure that she stayed on top of the different activities and adventures that could be taken by her girls, Sarah and Angela, and her family. Cynthia is dearly loved and missed by her husband, Ronald; daughters, Sarah Elizabeth (John) Noyes, Angela Marina (Jason) Covell, both of Utah; sisters, Heather and Lynda, both of Halifax; grandson, Kyle Covell. The family will receive visitors 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, both in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards, Richard Learmonth officiating. SAWLER, Lindsay Roland
SAWLER, Lindsay Roland - 77, Lakeside, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2003. Born in Mahone Bay, he was a son of the late Roland and Vera (Eisnor) Sawler. Surviving are his companion and friend, Marion Hayden; sons, Paul (Robin), Dale (Nancy), both of St. Margaret's Bay; brothers, Raymond (Rae), Gold River; Charles (Barbara), Western Shore; sister, Barbara (Arthur) Mason, Lunenburg; grandchildren, Nicole and Cody; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Effie; brothers, Marshall and Paul; sisters, Marie and Pearl. Cremation has been entrusted to Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Tantallon. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Andrews Anglican Church, Timberlea, The Rev. Ann Bersky and Rev. Judie Lafford officiating. WILSON, Isabel B.L.
WILSON, Isabel B.L. - 96, French Village, passed away November 12, 2003, in Glades Lodge, Halifax. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Alexander B. and Jemimah (Miller) Cameron. Isabel lived in Truro in her early years before moving to Stellarton, where she attended school. She then went into nursing school at the former VG Hospital from 1928-1931. She was a member of the VG Nurses Alumni and was the last member of her graduating class. She was a nurse at Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche from 1945-1972. She was also a member of Sedgwich Presbyterian Church where she was a faithful member of their choir. Isabel was the last member of her immediate family. Surviving are nieces, Mrs. Isabel Zwicker, French Village; Mrs. Shelia Patterson, New Glasgow; Mrs. Doris Arnold, Owen Sound, Ont.; Mrs. Betty Gribbon, St. Thomas, Ont.; nephew, Mr. Alex MacKenzie, Trenton. She was predeceased by her husband, C. Norman; sisters, Ethel MacKenzie, Doris Jackson and brother, Alexander in infancy. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, both in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon, Pastor Alex Rockwell officiating. SCHNARE, Ivan Richard, CD
SCHNARE, Ivan Richard, CD - 89, Blandford, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2003, in Shoreham Village, Chester. Born in East River Point, Lunenburg Co., he was the eldest son of the late Richard Ashley Schnare and Blanche Edna (Keddy) (Schnare) Gates. Ivan attended school in East River and Upper Blandford. He was a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 44, Chester, and a charter member of the Blandford Seasiders Senior Citizens' Club. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the 102 Squadron, Marine Divisions R.C.A.F. in Dartmouth and Vancouver carrying out supply, salvage and search and rescue missions in the North Atlantic along with the Pacific Theatre. He retired in Chatham, N.B. with 26 years service, returning to Blandford where he worked constructing many of the local homes bearing his perfectionist mark. He enjoyed gardening, dancing and singing, both as a soloist and with the Choral Group, under the direction of Phyllis Leitch. He was a builder of model ships, including replicas of the "Bluenose 1", "Banking Doreys" and "R.C.A.F. Marine Craft." He is survived by his wife, the former Frances Cleveland; son, Richard, Blandford; grandson, Nathan, Calgary; brother, Ellis, Blandford; half-sister, Muriel Publicover, Blandford. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Osborne Gates; brothers, Basil, Harvey, Percy, and Ernest; stepbrothers, Cecil and Ray Gates; half-brother, Douglas Gates; sisters, Dorothy Redden and Frances McInnis; daughter-in-law, Susan. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, in St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford, Rev. Randy Townsend officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Parish of Blandford Church Fund. On-line condolences can be made at:
