JOY, Frances Mildred "Millie"-
87, Black Point, Halifax Co., passed away in Parkstone, Halifax, Wednesday,
November 11, 2009. Born in Chatham, N.B., December 15, 1921, she was a
daughter of the late Robert and Anne (Bracken) Fernandez. She was predeceased
by her husband, Eric A. Joy; sisters, Alice "Susie" (Fraser), Margaret,
Katherine "Kate" (Turple), Gertrude (Major) and Sister Mary Blanche; brothers,
Robert, William, Marvin and Carl. She was president of Big Eric's Restaurant
Supplies. A devote Roman Catholic, she was a member of Saint Anthony's Parish,
Hubbards, the Catholic Women's League and the Ladies Auxilliary Black Point
Fire Department. She is survived by sons, David, Black Point; Paul (Cathy),
Lower Sackville; Tony (Trudy), Black Point and daughter, Mary Lee O'Neil
(Terry), Halifax; grandchildren, Craig, Kelly LeBlanc (Steve), Christopher,
Erin, Andrew, Eric, Meghan, Cailin and Brandon; great-granddaughter,
Gabrielle. Millie was always astute in financial matters. Her constant advice
for her grandchildren was to, "Pay yourself first." To her employees she said,
"Make sure you add enough for freight." The family wishes to thank her devoted
nursing staff and caregivers on Parkstone Princess Lane especially Tara as
well as Holly, Gillian, Nicole, Crystal and Taunya. Visitation in Ronald A.

WAY, Austin Martin Jr. - 57, of Hackett's
Cove, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax.
Born in Halifax he was a son of the late Austin and Joan Way. Austin retired
as a Foreman with Nova Scotia Department of Highways. He enjoyed hunting and
fishing and spent many hours looking for deals at Superstore and Sobeys. He is
survived by his wife, the former Marlene Bremner; son, Austin W. "Bill"
(Lisa), Hackett's Cove; brother, James (Ruth), Gerald (Kathy); sisters, Mary,
all of Halifax; Jeannie, Hackett's Cove; Kathleen (Alex) Bolduc, Quebec;
Grampies precious angels, Abigail and Shalynn; many nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by sister, Helen Morris. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m.
Saturday, November 14th, from St. Peter's Anglican Church, Hackett's Cove,

CHRISTIE, Violet Vivian- 91, Boutilier's Point,
passed away peacefully in Melville Lodge, Halifax on Thursday, November 12,
2009. Born in Boutilier's Point, she was the daughter of the late Albertus and
Selina (Boutilier) Awalt and the last surviving member of her family. Violet
was a lifelong member of St. James' Anglican Church, past member of A.C.W.,
founding member of Mystic Star Chapter N0. 40, O.E.S., and worked at the
Leghorn Barbecue for many years. She liked to travel, knit, play bingo and
cards, spending time with her family and friends and was a lovely cook and
baker. She is survived by sons, Wayne (Marilyn), Roger (Betty Lou); daughter,
Karen (Melvin) Brownell; grandchildren, Tim (Krista), Rhonda (Jim) Chisholm,
Mark, Michelle (Jamie) Wells and Tammie (Glenn) Day; great-grandchildren,
Jacob, Samuel, Gabriel, Cole, Connor and Kaitlyn. She was predeceased by her
husband, Frank and sister, Maida Butler. Special thanks to the staff of

COOLEN, Thelma Jean Elizabeth "Betty" - 85, of
Fox Point, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009, in South Shore Regional
Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late John
A. and Ethel (Munroe) Lowe. Betty was a faithful and active member of Fox
Point Seventh Day Adventist Church. She will be lovingly remembered by her
family and many friends for her kind ways and gentle and generous heart. She

PUBLICOVER, Joyce Winnifred - 89, of Hubbards,
passed away Friday, November 13, 2009, in QEII Health Sciences Center,
Halifax. Joyce was born in Hubbards on March 28, 1920. She was a daughter of
the late George Gilford and Jean (Shankel) Harnish. She was predeceased by her
first husband, Roy Armstrong (1971); second husband, Squadron Leader, Ernest
Publicover (R.A.F. and R.C.A.F.) (2003); sisters, Madge Mitchell (2002); Gwen
Campbell (2008); brothers, Reginald (1994) and Joseph (1999); infant, Cyril
(1917). Sister, Janet MacLean is the only survivor of the immediate family.
Joyce is survived by stepdaughter, Dorothy Jean (Don) Guy; stepsons, Robert
(Brenda) and John (Denise); step-grandchildren, Robin, April, Don, Heather,
Brian, Angela and Holly; several nieces and nephews and many grandnieces,
grandnephews and cousins. Joyce attended Acadia University in Wolfville and
Maritime Business College in Halifax. She and Roy owned and operated the "Hubb
Theatre" in Hubbards. The business originated in the summer of 1946. Joyce was
active in St. Lukes Anglican Church for over 16 years. She was an active
member of the A.C.W. for many years. The Hubbards Area Lionettes played a
prominent part in her life. Family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

FLOYD, Ruby Augus- 84, Boutilier's Point,
passed away Friday, November 20, 2009, in Parkstone Enhanced Care,
Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Hal and Maude (Barkhouse)
Gallagher. Ruby was employed for many years with the Ladies Arcade Shop in
Halifax Shopping Centre. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed dancing
to her favourite country tunes. She is survived by son, Gary, Boutilier's
Point; daughter Carolyn Cole, Gold River; brother, Mathew Gallagher,
Dartmouth; sister, Evelyn (Lavern) Steers, Halifax; grandchildren, Brad
and Tylia. She was predeceased by her husband, Scott and sister, Muriel. A

MORSE, Orabelle May- 98, of Boutilier's
Point, passed away November 20, 2009, after enjoying a game of scrabble
while residing at Shoreham Village Nursing Home. She was born August 18,
1911, in Garden Lots, Lunenburg Co., the daughter of Walter and May
Tanner. She was predeceased by her husband Jack (2000) to whom she was
married for 65 years. Cherished mother of Donald, David (Janet), Peter
and Susan Elliott. She is also survived by grandchildren, Karen (Brian),
Geoffrey (Debra), Christopher (Kristy), Matthew and Mark as well as
great-granddaughters, Samantha, Jamie, Breana and Isabella. She was
predeceased by brother, Lawrence; sister, Audret; son-in-law, Lary
Elliott, and grandson, Jonathan. Orabelle was very fond of gardening and
was a very good bridge player. She enjoyed painting, reading and later
in life enjoyed many board games. She was a member of St. James Anglican
Church. A service will be held in St. James Anglican Church, Boutilier's
Point on Tuesday, December 1, at 10 a.m. Interment in the church

peacefully Saturday, November 21, 2009, in QEII Health Sciences Centre,
Halifax. Born in Tantallon, he was the son of the late James and Glady
Boutilier. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a
retired freight handler. He is survived by daughters, Diane (Barrie) Morash,
Glen Haven; Corinne Arthur, Dartmouth; sons, David (Carol), Boutilier's Point;
James, Tantallon; son-in-law, Ronnie Coolen, Boutilier's Point; grandchildren,
Jennifer, Krista, Shannon, Miranda, Laura, Trevor, Jody, Wade, and Jamie; 13
great-grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Pilon, Avis Foster, Elise Sadler;
brothers, Morley and Innis, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by
his wife of 61 years, Joyce (Margie); daughter, Barbara Coolen; brothers,
James, Bruce, Doug, Ray, and sisters, Cora and Maxine. Funeral will be held 2
