GATES, Lois Marie- 87, of The Lodge passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 8, 2009, in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Birchy Head, she was the daughter of the late Stewart and Pauline (Shatford) Boutilier. Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lois operated her own business as a hairdresser. Later she worked at CFS Mill Cove Naval Base. She was a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, Mill Cove. Lois enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and quilting for family and friends. Her door was always open and no one left hungry. Lois' elegance, beauty and spirit will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Survived by her loving husband, Ira M. Gates; children, Donald (Rhea) Hogue, Simms Settlement; Maurice (Marilyn) Hogue, Fox Point; Paul (Judy) Hogue, Birchy Head; Linda (Bruce) Bond, Chester; Philip (Joyce) Hogue, Hubbards; Elizabeth "Betty" Hogue, Halifax; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son, Russell; daughter, Patricia; first husband, Louis Hogue. A celebration of Lois's life will be held 1-3 p.m., Monday, October 12 in Hubbards Area Lions Club, Fox Point. A private family service and committal will be held. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or charity of choice. RAFUSE, Rhoda Garnet- 92, of Halifax, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009, in Northwood Center, Halifax. Born in Queensland, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ellen (Kennedy) Rafuse. Rhoda worked all her life with the Provincial Department of Education and was a member of the Anglican Church of Canada. Rhoda was an avid card and bingo player. She is survived by her sister, Beulah Kennedy; nieces, Barbara Moss; both of Halifax; Lorraine Leadbeater, Timberlea and nephew, Burnald Snair. Predeceased by brothers, Donald, Fred, Amos, Clarence, and Percy; sisters, Gertrude, Ella, Muriel and Laura. The family will receive visitors between 1-2 p.m. Friday, October 23, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. both in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards, Rev. Laurie Omstead officiating. Reception to follow. Burial to be held in St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery, Queensland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Johns Anglican Church Cemetery, Queensland. DAVIS, Harold Rintou- Hubbards, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, in QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born April 1, 1928, in Amaranth Township, Ont. He was the son of the late Erwilda and Roy Davis. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline. Harold served with the Royal Canadian Navy and later became an electrician; he was a member of Local 625 IBEW. He leaves behind his loving children, Mary-Ellen (Rick), Hatchett Lake; Dorothy (Greg), Coldbrook; Sherri (Stuart), Goodwood; Jane, Hubbards; Heidi (Stephen), Brazil; Michael, Hubbards. Harold was a much loved Grampy to his 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also leaves behind four sisters in Ontario. At Harold's request a private family service will be held. HUBLEY, Willena Mae — We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother on Wednesday, October 29, 2009, surrounded by her loving family, in Glades Lodge, Halifax. She was a daughter of the late Norman and Annie (Conners)MacAskill. Survived by her loving husband, best friend and soul mate of 51 years, Roy Hubley; children, Deborah O'Neill (Micheal Carter), Kevin(Angela A'Hearn) and Kenneth (Janice) Hubley; dear grandmother of Kelsey O'Neill, Sarah, Julie and Cameron Hubley. Also survived by brother, Daniel MacAskill, and many nieces and nephews. Willena was born in Stirling, Cape Breton on December 16, 1930. She taught for many years at various schools. Her last was Seabright Elementary before retiring. After retiring she worked several years at Sou Wester Gift Shop and the Lighthouse Post Office in Peggy's Cove, where she was known as Willie. Willena was a member of William Black Memorial United Church, Glen Margaret for over 50 years where she was a charter member of the choir and a lifetime member of UCW for 43 years. She was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows Manchester Unity from 1962 until its recent closing. She was a very active member who held many offices over the years and was also a member of White Caps Seniors Group, since 1990 where she served as President for many years. Being a resident of Seabright for over 50 years, she was involved within the community whether it be an election, card game or any type of gathering. Willena loved to entertain and be entertained, and enjoyed a good cup of Cape Breton Tea. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in William Black Memorial Church, Glen Margaret. Burial will follow in William Black Memorial Cemetery. Donations may be made to William Black Memorial Church or Glades Lodge Recreation Department Fund. Special thank you to the staff of Glades Lodge, Janet Fralick, Home Care Worker, and Rev. Sandra Cox and close friends for their compassion and support during this very difficult time.
